Trump Twitter-brags about calling journalists the “enemy of the people.”

That’s right, the man who is supposed to uphold the Constitution is once again attacking our 1st Amendment rights.

In my opinion, journalists are the heroes that we desperately need right now.

They may get a fact or two wrong occasionally but overall the professional journalists of America provide vital, fact-based information to our citizens every single day.

And they have never been more important then they are right now.

Especially with this buffoon in the White House.

Presidents do NOT threaten to shut down the government when they do not get their way.

They are the ones who are supposed to keep it going in spite of partisan bickering in Congress and the Senate.

And if you are looking for fake news you need look no further than Trump’s Twitter account.

There was NO polling during Lincoln’s presidency.

Update: The New York Times publisher that Trump talked to fired back.

Good for him, more people need to confront Tangerine Hitler about the damage he is doing to this country.

NYT Responds To Trump Tweet About ‘Fake News’ Meeting With Publisher A.G. Sulzberger

…“My main purpose for accepting the meeting was to raise concerns about the president’s deeply troubling anti-press rhetoric,” Sulzberger said in a statement to HuffPost. “I told the president directly that I thought that his language was not just divisive but increasingly dangerous.”

“I made clear repeatedly that I was not asking for him to soften his attacks on The Times if he he felt our coverage was unfair,” he added. “Instead, I implored him to reconsider his broader attacks on journalism, which I believe are dangerous and harmful to our country.”

Koch Group Attacks Trump and Republicans in Congress

Senior officials and donors from the groups affiliated with billionaire conservative businessman Charles Koch expressed great displeasure with President Donald Trump and his Republican enablers in the U.S. Congress at the group’s biannual seminar in Colorado Springs this weekend.

They also expressed frustration at what they called the “divisiveness” of the Trump administration, which they say is making it nearly impossible to find areas where legislators of different parties can find compromise.

“The divisiveness of this White House is causing long-term damage,” said Charles Koch Foundation president Brian Hooks. “When in order to win on an issue, someone else has to lose, it makes it very difficult to unite and solve the problems of this country.”

“When we say there’s a lack of leadership … I’d include the White House and a number of politicians who are following that lead,” Hooks added. “There’s a need for someone to step up and show people it’s possible to achieve things when you unite people together … rather than divide them.”

Charles Koch himself warned against “a rise in protectionism” and he has previously expressed his unhappiness at the Trump’s tariffs and immigration policies.

Koch Network officials were very upset about the Trump administration giving $12 billion in aid to farmers who are being harmed by retaliatory tariffs, calling them “Depression-era policies punctuated by farmer bailouts.”

“This is hurting people and doing long-term damage to the country,” Hooks said.

Secret “Dark Money” Group is Spending Big to Help Democrats Take Back the House

Secret “dark money” nonprofits are working with a previously unknown organization that is spending millions of dollars helping Democratic congressional candidates in swing districts during this election cycle. The nonprofts are buying large numbers of TV and other ads attacking swing-seat House Republicans on such issues as affordable health care and tax breaks for billionaires.

This is an extremely surprising move, as liberal activist groups have quietly become some of the biggest spenders of “dark money” in the country during 2018.

This morning’s flurry of tweets from the president did nothing but confirm that he is unhinged, deluded, and living in a fantasy world of his own making. The good news is that since he doesn’t realize how unpopular he is — and his policies are — it is likely that his party will go down to a crushing defeat in this year’s midterm elections.

Rudy Giuliani tips off that a major Donald Trump scandal bombshell is about to land

…Here’s what Rudy Giuliani tweeted on Saturday night: “Stay tuned as the Cohen-Davis team is rumored to be getting ready to release more surreptitiously recorded conversations. By the time Davis is.” Believe it or not, that’s how his tweet ended – and his next tweet a minute later started on a different train of thought: “Press saying today that Lanny Davis is getting ready to leak more of his client’s surreptitiously recorded tapes. All you’re doing is destroying Cohen’s credibility and his usefulness as a witness and his career as a lawyer. Get some competent legal advice.” This tells us a lot.

First, it tells us that Rudy is even more frantic and confused than ever, as evidenced by his inability to complete a sentence. It also tells us that Rudy thinks this next tape is particularly damaging to Donald Trump, or he wouldn’t be publicly begging Michael Cohen not to release it.

NY Times publisher tells Trump to his face: ‘His language is not just divisive but increasingly dangerous’

…“I told him that although the phrase ‘fake news’ is untrue and harmful, I am far more concern about him labeling journalists an ‘enemy of the people,’” the publisher continued. “I warned that this inflammatory language is contributing to a rise in threats against journalists and will lead to violence.”

Sulzberger said that he warned Trump that he is “putting lives at risk” with his inflammatory rhetoric, and that he is “undermining the democratic ideals of our nation.”

Sulzberger did not indicate how the president responded to his request.

When the most recent Sulzberger to be named NYT publisher took over, he said that the paper would become more conservative. Maybe he’s not happy with what’s resulted. It looks like another mistake in judgement by the NYT. Remember in the fall of 2016 the NYT thought it was more important to chase the October “false flag” over Hillary Clinton’s emails rather than to pursue the “real” news of Russian interference in the coming election. They also “missed the boat” with events leading to the Bush Iraq war and had some issues way back in the Vietnam and Nixon era days. When the NYT opts to be wrong, they really do a job of it!

NY Times publisher: I told Trump his attacks on the press would lead to violence

…Sulzberger said he told Trump that his language was “increasingly dangerous.”

“I told him that although the phrase ‘fake news’ is untrue and harmful, I am far more concerned about his labeling journalists ‘the enemy of the people,’ ” Sulzberger said. “I warned that this inflammatory language is contributing to a rise in threats against journalists and will lead to violence.”

He noted that Trump’s “fake news” comments are being used by foreign “regimes to justify sweeping crackdowns on journalists,” and that the rhetoric is “putting lives at risk” and undermining democracy in the U.S.

Sulzberger said he did not ask Trump to stop criticism of the Times if he believed their coverage was unfair, but urged him to tamp down his criticism of the press overall.

“I made clear repeatedly that I was not asking for him to soften his attacks on The Times if he felt our coverage was unfair,” Sulzberger said. “Instead, I implored him to reconsider his broader attacks on journalism, which I believe are dangerous and harmful to our country.”

Scaramucci: Trump’s attitude toward reporters ‘galvanizes the press’ against him

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci warned President Trump on Sunday that his antagonistic approach to the press “galvanizes” the media against him.

“Having a war declaration or having that level of antagonism with the press does not help the president, does not serve his interest going into the midterms or the reelection,” Scaramucci said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”‘

“I understand the frustration, I understand the president’s personality where he likes to punch back and he likes to be combative,” he added. “But what I think that also does…it galvanizes the press vis-à-vis the White House.”

FB>”It’s been another week of craziness on the political landscape. But as the news alerts ping with rapid succession and increasing alarm, I seek a refuge. We cannot afford to bury our heads in the sand, but we also cannot succumb to the constant strain on our humanity. We must all find ways to try to keep a semblance of sanity and connection to a larger world.
So allow me, please, to respectfully and gently offer a suggestion: make the time to take an old friend to lunch. The goal need not, and perhaps should not, be to talk politics. Musings and laughter and even some harmless gossip. I’ve become partial to the Yiddish word kibitz.
This is what I did recently with my oldest friend in New York. I’ve known him, been close to him, for now well over 50 years. We talked about our families, lots about our grandchildren; also about the World Cup, the Yankees, Mets, Astros and Knicks. Then some about how great the two of us used to be when we worked together as journalists. He had a burger, I had eggs rancheros. We spent about an hour and a half together and departed with pats on the back, a hug, and promises to do it again soon – which we meant.
I was refreshed, renewed, and more “up” and optimistic about the world. Now, still in the flow of quiet reflection, I find myself thinking of a favorite saying of my late father: “New friends are silver, old friends are gold.”
So if you’re feeling a little low, about politics, work, and/or life in general, take an old friend to lunch.”a TRUE journalist

NYT: Trump Laments That He Could Have Had Tom Brady, Not Jared, As Son-In-Law

The New York Times reported Saturday that President Donald Trump’s relationship with his son-in-law Jared Kushner has deteriorated over the past few months, and that the president now routinely complains that “Jared hasn’t been so good for me” and that he could have had NFL star Tom Brady as a son-in-law instead. (Short-lived White House communications direct Anthony Scaramucci has claimed that Ivanka Trump and Brady briefly dated.)

Trump has reportedly told his friends and aides that he wishes both Kushner and his daughter Ivanka would return to New York.

Are Trump supporters so stupid to believe there were polls when Lincoln was president? Or do they blindly believe each lie out of Trump’s mouth?

Trump’s threat can be viewed as another empty ploy to rile up his base, but it is also a sign that he is running out of time and opportunities to get funding for his wall. With a Democratic House takeover looking more and more likely by the day, and the 2020 presidential election just around the corner, the wall that Trump promised that Mexico would be pay for is not close to becoming a reality.

The wall is never going to happen if Democrats win back all or part of Congress because the Democrats are holding Trump to his promise that Mexico will pay for the wall. Democrats have told Trump no on the wall since he took office.

Trump has tried numerous schemes to try to get Democrats to pay for the wall. None have worked because Trump campaigned on Mexico paying for the wall, and he needs to be held to that promise.

If Trump shuts down the government, it will be a disaster for Republicans. Government shutdowns are never popular, and the party in control of Congress always takes the blame.

The wall isn’t coming, but if Trump shuts down the government, a Democratic Congress is.

    • Anonymous July 29, 2018 at 12:00 pm

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) humiliated Trump after he threatened to shut down the government by calling his bluff and saying that the American people will not be bullied into paying for his wall.

Rep. Maxine Waters said, “You know, this president is a bully and he will try to intimidate all of us. He is not going to shut down anything. As a matter of fact, people will remember that he said he was going to build this wall and he was going to make Mexico pay for the wall. They said they weren’t going to pay for anything. Now he wants the American citizens to pay for this bomb. American citizens are not going to pay for this wall, he is not going to shut down the government and we are not going to be intimidated by his bluffing and bullying.”

Waters treated Trump’s threat like a joke because this president has zero credibility. He is constantly bluffing while trying to bully and intimidate to get his own way. The reason why Trump can’t stand Waters and the rest of the Democrats who stand up to him is that they aren’t intimidated by him, and they see through his bullying. Donald Trump is a weak man who is not fooling anyone but the most far gone followers of the cult of Trump.

Democrats know that Trump is bluffing, and they are more than happy to call him out on it.

ICE agents pressured parents to be deported with their children — then separated them again when they refused
A new filing in the ACLU’s family separation lawsuit recounts claims that ICE is trying to coerce newly reunited families.

A lawyer claims that several fathers have been separated from their children by Immigration and Customs Enforcement for a second time, after the fathers refused to withdraw their children’s cases to stay in the US and allow the government to deport the family together.

The fathers say that shortly after being reunited with their teenage children, they were presented with forms that gave them three “options” for their families’ cases — with the option for deporting the child along with the parent already selected. One parent says the check mark had been made in pen; two others report that they were told they had to sign the form with that option selected.

The allegation comes in a filing late Saturday night in the court case overseeing the federal government’s efforts to reunite families it separated at the US/Mexico border.

The Trump administration has said parents who have exhausted their own options to seek asylum have a choice: They can choose to have their children deported with them, withdrawing the child’s own immigration case, or they can choose to be deported alone while the child stays.

In a comment to Vox regarding the allegations, a Department of Homeland Security official reiterated this. “Asking parents in ICE custody, who are subject to a final order of removal, to make a decision about being removed with or without their children, is part of long-standing policy,” the official said. “ICE does not interfere in the parent’s decision to allow the child to remain in the U.S. to pursue his or her own legal claim.”

But Saturday night’s filing offers evidence of ICE agents doing just that. Either all four parents who spoke to the lawyer are lying, or the lawyer’s declaration shows that the choice isn’t always being freely offered — and that parents who select the second option are having their children summarily taken from them, with no chance to say goodbye, for the second time in a matter of months.

The Trump Administration Lost Hundreds Of Parents Before Reunifying Them With Their Children

…“The government is at fault for losing several hundred parents in the process and that’s where we go next,” said U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw, according to The Hill.

“Each (department) was like its own stovepipe, each had its own boss, and they did not communicate,” he added, according to the report. “What was lost in the process was the family.”

…Trump caused a crisis on the border – and he’s unable to clean it up

Trump’s extremist immigration policies were successful during the campaign among angry white voters who were looking for a punching bag, but they have been an unmitigated disaster when implemented.

Despite hundreds of families being reunified as part of a court-ordered deadline, CNN notes that “one in three children still remained away from their parents, with no clear indication when they would be reunited.”

Donald Trump has created a mess on the border. Not only is he unable and unwilling to adequately clean it up, but hundreds of families have been permanently damaged in the process.

…Sabraw faulted the government’s lack of a plan to reunify families when the detainment program began as a key reason for the delay in family reunifications. The Trump administration faced Thursday a court order to reunify the remaining families.

More than 1,800 children had been reunited with their parents by Friday, the government said, but reported that hundreds more were deemed “ineligible” for family reunification. As many as 400 of the 711 children still detained may have had their parents deported already, CBS News reported.

Maxine Waters slays Trump with most devastating rant yet: ‘We’ll find out about his schemes, his lying, his payoffs’

…“There is so much going on with this president and his allies and with Giuliani and all of this,” she explained. “With the judge having decided that they can go forward with the emoluments claim with what is happening on the border.”

“When you couple that with the fact that his son has lied, he has lied about that meeting that took place at the tower, at the Trump Tower, all of that is going to help, you know, obscure the message that he is trying to bring on the economy,” Waters said. “This president is wreaking havoc on this country. And so while there is some improvement in the economy, we have all of this other mess that we have to take a look at and what is, you know, in the forefront of what is being talked about in the media.”

The California Democrat argued that Trump’s economic message would not be enough to overcome his disapproval ratings.

“Let him go out there,” Waters remarked. “As a matter of fact, I don’t think that that’s going to be so powerful that people can overlook how he’s dividing this country, how he is upsetting our democracy, how he is aligned with Putin, how he is in bed with the Kremlin. It’s all about money making and it’s all about Putin wanting to lift these sanctions and all of his allies wanting to make money out of this Russia deal.”

“I think he’s going to have to answer some real questions about the fact that he lied — that he knew that the meeting [at Trump Tower] was going to take place. All of the planning that had to go into that meeting by his son [Donald Trump Jr.]. And the fact that he talks with his daddy every day.”

Waters went on to accuse the president’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, of lying about whether Trump knew that former Playboy model Karen McDougal was paid off to be silent about an alleged affair. Tapes seized from former Trump attorney Michael Cohen seem to indicate that Trump was aware of the McDougal hush money.

“I certainly believe that I that Giuliani is lying,” she said. “When he says that they have already determined that the tape has been tampered with, he cannot prove that. If he is called on [to testify] right now, he has no way of justifying that lie.”

“They can lie all they want to. It’s all going to come out in the wash. I am convinced that in the final analysis they are not going to be able to be successful with the kind of lying that they are doing. It is obvious,” Waters added. “I hope that the other tapes that are in possession of Mr. Cohen will be revealed and we’ll find out more about this president, his schemes, his lying, his payoffs, all of that because I certainly believe that the president of the United States is not only divisive and dangerous, but he does not need to be in that office.”

Waters concluded with a warning that Trump should be concerned about Democrats taking back the House of Representatives.

“Look out, President, you’re in trouble,” she said.

Watch the video below from MSNBC.

In a rare interview with reporters at a conference he is hosting in Colorado, billionaire conservative Charles Koch admitted that he may have backed some wrong Republicans in the past election, and wouldn’t object to the Democrats reclaiming the House from the GOP.

…Asked if he would support Democrats, Koch replied, “I don’t care what initials are in front of or after somebody’s name,” and that a Democratic majority House was something he could live with.

Watergate’s Carl Bernstein: Trump’s furious denials about Russian links to his campaign reek of a ‘demonstrable’ cover-up

…Bernstein went on to detail the “vast story” emerging in the Mueller investigation.

“We have the story going on about this investigation closing in and how psychologically Trump is reacting,” Bernstein explained. “Telling the country that he is a stable genius while those in the White House are saying, well, he doesn’t look very stable right now to us and he didn’t look very much like a genius to us right now except where he obviously is ingenious and that is in his political skills and mobilizing his base, which is his big offensive to keep the facts from emerging in this story.”

“The base and keeping them energized against the press is absolutely essential to Donald Trump fighting and furthering the cover-up,” Bernstein said. “Look, there is a cover-up by the president of the United States. But we don’t know what the cover-up is about yet. We don’t know the facts yet. Why he has, from the beginning in this investigation—and the Trump Tower meeting is the best evidence of it—the cover-up is demonstrable because he helped create the cover story on the airplane, which has since been disproven about what occurred at that meeting.”

“We have a lot to learn and we need to keep doing our reporting and that includes this dynamic that is going on of the attempts by the president to undermine a free press, because he wants our credibility destroyed because we are reporting the truth,” Bernstein added.

Here is how to fight back against the cult of Trump

…This is a cult, a mass sociopathy, otherwise decent Americans failing in their patriotic duty to defend the country from the inside or out against cults of personality. Instead, they have fallen for the cult of personality but not just for Trump’s personality, for the way joining a cult revitalizes their confidence in their own personalities.

They have discovered a way to escape Jeffersonian self-doubt. They play god themselves, crusader’s for their cult. Out of frustration, desperation and/or ignorance, they have escaped into a fantasy that about, politics and morality they are infallible, invincible and unassailable, godlike, on God’s side, on Trump’s side.

…All cults end up in the same place, detached from reality, followers led by the nose, lured in by that heady fantasy that they have achieved godlike political mastery, the lure that they too can enlist for last-word status as infallible, invincible and unassailable with godlike omniscience, omnipotence, and moral purity.

Democracies like ours die when cult leaders, so powerful they escape self-doubt control people so stressed they can’t afford self-doubt. Democracies have toppled to the left, right and in any direction, but always to cults, the powerful freed from doubt luring the helpless with dreams of absolute authority.

Trump tweets to claim he ‘turned down’ Robert Mueller to head FBI right before he was appointed to investigate collusion

Trump now claims that he “turned down” Robert Mueller to head the FBI “one day before” he was appointed special prosecutor to look into Trump’s collusion with Russia in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Trump also claimed that the men have a “very nasty & contentious business relationship.”

Mueller led the FBI for more than a decade following the 9/11 attacks. He served beyond the normal 10-year term at President Obama’s request before finally retiring. He was appointed special prosecutor in May 2017 at age 72.

Previous reports attributed to anonymous sources had said that Mueller had interviewed with Trump the day before the appointment, but not that Mueller has been “turned down.”

Trump did not nominate the current FBI director until several weeks after Mueller was appointed to investigate his collusion with Russia.

It was unclear what the “nasty & contentious business relationship” referred to as Mueller spent most of his career in the public sector.

Trump says the media puts the ‘lives of many’ at risk in Twitter rant

…“I will not allow our great country to be sold out by anti-Trump haters in the dying newspaper industry,” he continued. “No matter how much they try to distract and cover it up, our country is making great progress under my leadership and I will never stop fighting for the American people!”

Trump then decided to pick a fight with two specific publications.

“As an example, the failing New York Times and the Amazon Washington Post do nothing but write bad stories even on very positive achievements – and they will never change!” Trump wrote, referring to the newspaper owned by Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.

The president’s Sunday afternoon screed came after he and the Times publisher, A.G. Sulzberger, released contrasting versions of their White House meeting on July 20.

ICYMI, #Russia liquidated almost all of its holdings in U.S. Treasury securities during run up to #HelsinkiSummit, in move labeled ‘unprecedented’ by experts

What do they know? Mystery as Russia LIQUIDATED almost ALL of its holdings in US Treasury securities during run up to Helsinki summit, in move labeled ‘unprecedented’ by experts

Russia slashed holdings in US Treasuries by 84 per cent from March to May

The Russian government has sold off the vast majority of its holdings of US Treasury securities for reasons that remain mysterious, in a dramatic move that experts are calling unprecedented.

A US Treasury report released on July 18 shows that Russian holdings of Treasury securities declined by 84 per cent between March and May, down to just $14.9 billion from March holdings of $96.1 billion.

The report was issued quietly amid the controversy surrounding President Donald Trump’s July 16 meeting with Russian President Valdimir Putin in Helsinki, dropping Russia from the list of major Treasuries holders without comment.
