Trump Administration has deleted vitally important medical guidelines from HHS database.

Kind of a dick move.

Courtesy of the DailyBeast:

The Trump Administration is planning to eliminate a vast trove of medical guidelines that for nearly 20 years has been a critical resource for doctors, researchers and others in the medical community.

Maintained by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality [AHRQ], part of the Department of Health and Human Services, the database is known as the National Guideline Clearinghouse [NGC], and it’s scheduled to “go dark,” in the words of an official there, on July 16.

Medical guidelines like those compiled by AHRQ aren’t something laypeople spend much time thinking about, but experts like Valerie King, a professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Director of Research at the Center for Evidence-based Policy at Oregon Health & Science University, said the NGC is perhaps the most important repository of evidence-based research available.

“ was our go-to source, and there is nothing else like it in the world,” King said, referring to the URL at which the database is hosted, which the agency says receives about 200,000 visitors per month. “It is a singular resource,” King added.

Medical guidelines are best thought of as cheatsheets for the medical field, compiling the latest research in an easy-to-use format. When doctors want to know when they should start insulin treatments, or how best to manage an HIV patient in unstable housing — even something as mundane as when to start an older patient on a vitamin D supplement — they look for the relevant guidelines. The documents are published by a myriad of professional and other organizations, and NGC has long been considered among the most comprehensive and reliable repositories in the world.

There was no backup for this information or an alternate place for it to be stored, so it has simply disappeared.

This article did not provide any insight into the reason that HHS wanted to delete the information, nor can I imagine a reasonable one.

It is hard to imagine that any government agency would simply delete important information which might save American lives, but then again this is the Trump Administration so perhaps that is simply the direction that Vladimir Putin provided.

Another reason for impeachment, endangering the lives of American citizens.

This is just a guess . . . but . . . I’ll bet there’s a small office in HHS consisting of a few “government bureaucrats” who spend their time researching the latest medical research. They then produce summaries of the medical research which they put online, thereby making it possible for physicians and other health care people to stay up-to-date on medical research without having to spend hours reading boring medical journals.

    Of course, this costs $$$.

Now, what do you bet a big Republican donor has talked to the head of HHS — a Trump appointee — and said: “Such a deal I have for you. I have a private company that can do the same thing for less money.”

As we all know, the private company’s contract will be about 5X the budget of this small office in HHS, and, the private company will hire high school dropouts who will proceed to screw it up royally.

    Just a guess, you know.

Sounds pretty likely to me. Of course, the folks working for the private company will not need to have any scientific background but a business degree from Liberty Univ. might be recommended. There is clearly a determination to destroy every element that has made federal government departments and agencies a responsible and necessary part of American lives. Trump and his minions are hard at work taking away all the good things that government does for people – and it’s all done in the name of right-wing ideology. If this nightmare ever ends, it will take decades to rebuild what we had in 2016 and that much longer to progress from that point.

    OT: GOD’$ “White Boy”

“The white teen admitted that he was with two armed black teens that shot Justin Holmes, 22, because they suspected he was a member of a rival gang and on their turf.

Holmes was not a gang member; he was a black college student.

Terrell parked the getaway car—his father’s car—so that the other teens could sneak up on Holmes.

Terrell later recorded video of his fellow gang members kicking over memorial candles that had been left for the victim.

Terrell had faced a $5 million bond and his parents paid $500,000 cash to get him out of jail before trial.

“Cameron Terrell did not possess any weapons, he did not shoot anybody, he was not part of any conspiracy, or any plan or plot. … At best the evidence suggests that Cameron was a witness,” the defense attorney said, adding that his client made a good story because of his “background, his family, where he resides, his school.”

“Rest in peace, Justin Holmes!” he yelled into the camera as he left the courtroom. “I don’t have to explain myself to anyone. God knows what really happened that day, and God knows what was in my head that day.””

My hate for him and his policies grows by the hour. Of course someone wants to privatize this fir a friend to make $$. I heard doctors snd other clinicians were trying to buy it to save it. I guess thay fell through.
