Kind of wish we could do the same thing to his entire presidency.

President Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was destroyed by a man with a pickax early Wednesday, according to Los Angeles police Officer Ray Brown.

Hollywood division officers responded to a call at 3:33 a.m. (6:33 a.m. ET) to the tourist area. Los Angeles police said a man is in custody and is being questioned. Police said a man turned himself in Wednesday morning at the Beverly Hills Police Department.

I imagine there was likely a long line of people offering to bail him out.

This is not the first time the star has been targetted:

Trump’s star has repeatedly been the target of vandalism and protests since the reality TV star’s turn to politics. In April 2016, a Superman impersonator on Hollywood Boulevard said he had seen visitors make obscene gestures next to the star, deface it with paint and allow a dog to relieve itself on the landmark.

“People often stomp with anger on the star, others kick their heels over the star, and some spit. The last time, someone put a sticker over the star,” Francisco Javier, another street performer who was dressed like Superman, said at the time.

A street artist constructed a tiny wall around Trump’s star in July 2016, and that October Los Angeles police arrested a man who they said vandalized the star with a sledgehammer and a pickax.

I am not typically a fan of vandalism, but I imagine that it must feel very cathartic to do something like this.

And it sure beats a number of possible alternatives.

America’s middle class takes a terrifying slide down the mobility ladder

…Today, with their incomes flat or falling, these Americans scramble to maintain a semblance of what their parents enjoyed. They are moving from being dominant to being dominated. From acting to acted upon. Trained to be educators, lawyers, librarians, and accountants, they do work they can’t stand to support families they rarely see. Petrified of being pushed aside by robots, they rankle to see financial titans and tech gurus flaunting their obscene wealth at every turn.

Headlines gush of a humming economy, but it doesn’t feel like a party to them—and they’ve seen enough to know who will be holding the bag when the next bubble bursts.

The “Middle Precariots,” as Quart terms them, are suffering death by a thousand degradations. Their new reality: You will not do as well as your parents. Life is a struggle to keep up. Even if you achieve something, you will live in fear of losing it. America is not your land: it belongs to the ultra-rich.

It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

The children of America’s white-collar middle class viewed life from their green lawns and tidy urban flats as a field of opportunity. Blessed with quality schools, seaside vacations and sleepover camp, they just knew that the American dream was theirs for the taking if they hit the books, picked a thoughtful and fulfilling career, and just, well, showed up.

      Until it wasn’t.

“The position of conservative media — I mean, this is a weird world, conservative talk radio and Fox News and conservative TV. These days, if you’re just going to be a dumb, stupid, sick sycophant or a cheerleader for Trump, that’s the safest place to be for ratings.

It’s analogous to the politicians who just want to get re-elected, but a lot of these guys on conservative talk radio and TV, they know Trump is just a goof. But they would never say that publicly. Most have made calculations that it’s the safer place to be just to sing his praises every single day. I can’t do that.”

Trump biographer warns of ‘lots’ of other ‘brand-name women’ Trump has had affairs with — and alludes to abortions

…In an interview with SiriusXMProgress host Dean Obeidallah, Johnston said “there are lots of other women,” specifically “brand-name women,” that he thinks are likely hoping they don’t get “dragged into this.”

“I know who they are,” he said. “They are not in the record. But they may” become part of the ongoing scandals.

Obeidallah clarified that “brand-name” meant that they’re famous enough that people know who they are. He asked the biographer if he could “tape once or twice” if the name is one of the people, but Johnston refused to play along.

“This means nothing to the GOP. He could have slept with one hundred women, he could have numerous children out of wedlock,” Obeidallah said.

“He could have paid for numerous abortions through friends, and the party of ‘Family Values’ that constantly rails against abortion would give him a pass,” Johnston continued. “This is — you know, Dean, everything that I predicted that Donald would do in office before he entered office has turned out to be correct.”

He confessed that he was “really wrong” about one thing: He anticipated that the GOP would respect their own institutions enough to have acted by now. They have not.

    Listen to the interview below:

Biographer sounds the alarm: Trump’s been paying off women and ‘Russian gangsters’ for decades

…Trump, Johnston said, has resorted to payoffs like those he undertook with former Playboy models Karen McDougal and Stormy Daniels “the whole thirty years” he’d been covering him.

Later in the interview, the longtime Trump biographer weighed in on the president’s unusually-friendly public appearance with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki earlier in July and said that it, too, was in keeping with his past business dealings.

“We know that Donald was suddenly flush with cash and buying assets and his sons, one of his sons has said, we were getting lots of money from Russians,” Johnston said, referencing the time in 2014 when Eric Trump reportedly bragged about getting millions from Russians to a golf reporter.

“We know of documented cases where he got money from Russians,” he continued. “We know Donald Trump has been doing business with Russian gangsters for years. And when I say Russians, I mean Russian-speaking people.”

James Otis, who smashed Trump’s star in 2016, told TMZ he offered to pay Austin Clay’s $20,000 bail.

…Otis, speaking of his handiwork shortly after to reporters, said he planned to remove the entire star from the ground and then auction it off, with the proceeds going to the women who said they were sexually assaulted by Trump.

The World Is Hot, on Fire, and Flooding. Climate Change is Here.

…In recent weeks, high temperature records have been set on nearly every continent. On Monday, Japan had its hottest temperature in recorded history— 106 degrees Fahrenheit — just days after one of the worst flooding disasters the country has ever seen.

Algeria has recorded the highest reliably measured temperature in Africa, 124 degrees Fahrenheit. In late June, the temperature never dropped below 108 degrees Fahrenheit in Oman — the highest overnight low temperature anywhere in the world.

Even in normally temperate places the air has been sweltering: Temperatures approaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit hit parts of Canada, overwhelming hospitals in Montreal— where another heat wave is imminent this week.

According to calculationsfrom climate scientist Gavin Schmidt, this year will likely be the world’s fourth warmest year on record globally, behind 2015, 2016, and 2017. With another El Niño on the way, next year could be even hotter.

All over the world, heatwaves are getting longer and more intense, the most well-documentedand deadliest consequence of our failure to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Can’t we just feed them all to the lions? This is just disgusting beyond words.

Dozens Of Lion Trophy Permits Issued To Hunters As Trump Rolls Back Import Hurdles

The federal government has issued more than three dozen permits allowing hunters to import lion trophies from two African nations since 2016, according to copies of the applications obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The documents, obtained by the group Friends of Animals, provide insight into the often secretive permitting process to import threatened or endangered species killed abroad during luxury hunting trips. Thirty-three Americans were issued permits to import 38 lion trophies between 2016 and 2018, at least half of whom have donated to Republican lawmakers or are affiliated with the hunting lobby Safari Club International.

It’s unclear how many permit applications are currently before the agency or how many were issued in past years. The Fish and Wildlife Service did not respond to a request for comment.

The news comes just months after the Trump administration quietly began allowing more trophy hunting imports of lion and elephant parts from several African nations, saying it would review permits on a “case-by-case” basis as long as hunters demonstrate their actions to contribute to long-term conservation.

…Several people who received the permits have links to Republican fundraising efforts, according to Friends of Animals. Steven Chancellor, an Indiana businessman given a permit for a lion killed in 2016, raised more than $1 million for Republican lawmakers at an event that same year featuring then-candidate Donald Trump. Chancellor was recently appointed to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s new advisory board created to update federal rules for animal trophy imports alongside many other prominent hunters.

The Associated Press said that Chancellor is an avid hunter himself, logging nearly 500 kills by 2015 according to Safari Club member records obtained by the Humane Society. That total included at least 18 lions, half a dozen elephants and two rhinos.

Other approved permits went to hunters including Philip Glass, a Texas rancher and Trump donor who took a $100,000 trophy safari in Zimbabwe that was filmed in a documentary, and Kent Greenawalt, who has donated around $100,000 to Republican candidates and committees.
