So yesterday a young Democratic Socialist beat a 10 term incumbent congressman in a primary.

There’s something happening here, what it is ain’t exactly clear.

Courtesy of CNN:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old Latina running her first campaign, ousted 10-term incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in New York’s 14th congressional district on Tuesday, CNN projects, in the most shocking upset of a rollicking political season.

An activist and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, Ocasio-Cortez won over voters in the minority-majority district with a ruthlessly efficient grassroots bid, even as Crowley — the fourth-ranking Democrat in the House — outraised her by a 10-to-1 margin.
This was the first time in 14 years a member of his own party has attempted to unseat Crowley, who chairs the Queens County

Democrats. His defeat marks a potential sea change in the broader sphere of liberal politics — a result with implications for Democrats nationwide that would recall, as optimistic progressives routinely noted during the campaign, former GOP Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s loss to the insurgent, tea party-backed Dave Brat in June 2014.

“This is not an end, this is the beginning. This is the beginning because the message that we sent the world tonight is that it’s not OK to put donors before your community,” Ocasio-Cortez told roaring supporters on Tuesday night.

Well, we knew the Democrats in this country were energized and ready for change, I guess I just did not realize how much change they were seeking.

Cortez is an unapologetic activist who is calling for the abolishing ICE and was a community organizer who worked on the Bernie Sanders campaign.

She could very well be the face of a changing Democratic party, and quite possibly the face of a changing America.

Her face when she learned that she won this primary is also the best thing ever.

Good luck Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Update: For some reason, Trump thinks this is all about him.

He might want to read a little more about Ocasio-Cortez.

I’m definitely donating money to her.

Of course, Donnie Dotard made this about himself by tweeting, “Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!”

I like the ad but am biased because a daughter and her spouse live in Queens. I think free university education is unrealistic.

This country needs a strong third party based upon civil rights. Moderate tax and social benefits with rational military spending. This crap we have today from both parties is unsustainable.

Why don’t you just cut out the middleman and vote for the Republicans directly?

Cause that would be the same outcome.

      • Anonymous June 27, 2018 at 5:13 pm

How the fuck is my comment Republican in any way?

        • Gryphen June 27, 2018 at 5:22 pm

If a third party crops up that advocates for policies which are similar to the Democrats they will leech votes away from that party.

That is why the Russians bought Facebook ads promoting the Green Party.

They knew full well that those would be liberals votes that the Democrats could no longer count on.

          This is politics 101.

The Democratic Socialists basically ARE a third party as their energy and platforms are rather widely separated from old school Democrats. They want new ideas and new blood and won’t vote the old school party line. Bernie Bros anyone? Look at what a wrench he threw into he entire 2016 election process. This will be Bernie Bros on steroids.

Bad timing? Yes, terrible timing when Democrats need to be a united front, but 2016 showed us that Democrats are anything but united and all this has to play out sooner or later.

This acknowledgment and congratulations you provide… is the third party and the far left liberal split (i.e. NOT the party of Clinton). Reality is escaping you.

This entire thing caught the Democratic party unawares, proving once again that they don’t have their finger on the pulse of what their own party wants. Hopefully this great upset will remind the Democratic “old guard” where their party needs to be in order to get the votes they need to win elections. Looks like the “Parkland kids” movement to get young folks to vote led them to vote for one of their own and not for some old fart that has sat in office for 20 years.

The Democratic Swamp also needs draining and hopefully this is just the beginning. Pelosi et. al. are just giving it lip service now because they had the pants surprised right off of them but New York just gave them a glimpse of the actual pulse of their party and all the old farts better figure out how to romance this new generation or they will be lost for sure.

Lot of old Dems thinking they were the bulwark of their party just had a serious wakeup call.

The old, white men that are career politicians need to be voted out or retire. I think the youth factor, women factor and minority factor are the future of the Democratic party. Ocasio-Cortez is that representation. She was a guest on Morning Joe and I was impressed.

McCain’s Palin whisperer Steve Schmidt drops a load!

    I think bullshit!@

One the one hand…PALIN: Five collages plus- PROUD TO BE VALLEY TRASH!!!- “Getty Images Sarah Palin and daughters Bristol, Piper and Willow model “Proud to be Valley Trash” T-shirts as the result of State Senator Ben Stevens (son of Ted Stevens) comments that people living in the Mat-Su Borough are “just Valley trash,” Wasilla, Alaska, July”

On the other hand…OCASIO-CORTEZ:- “But Ocasio-Cortez has always been eager to explore uncharted terrain. The longtime Star Trek nut entered a global science competition in high school, and when her microbiology project won second place, MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory named a small asteroid after her, 23238 Ocasio-Cortez, which continues to hurtle through space.”

And the party elite still don’t get it.
