Sarah Huckabee Sanders finally gets called out on her lies.

Yeah, nice dodge there Huckabee.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

At Monday’s White House press briefing, one correspondent noted that a leaked letter from Trump’s legal team revealed that Sanders had falsely claimed to reporters in 2017 that Trump did not “dictate” the letter.

“If you say one thing from the podium, that it wasn’t dictated by the president,” Washington Post reporter Josh Dawsey asked, “as long as you are saying something entirely different and contradicting, how are we supposed to know what to believe? How can we believe what you’re saying from the podium if his lawyers are saying it’s entirely inaccurate.”

Sanders, however, declined to answer the question, instead referring it to Trump’s outside attorneys.

But Dawsey pressed: “You literally said, ‘He did not dictate.’ The lawyers say he did. What is it?”

“I’m not going to respond to the letter from the president’s outside counsel,” Sanders stated robotically. “I would refer you to them for comment.”

“Yeah, Sanders why are so such a big fucking liar?”

“Uh, I can’t answer that because the big fucking liar I work for does not want me to .”

My new hero is that Josh Dawsey fellow.

Good on him for calling this nasty woman out over her constant stream of untruths.

I don’t want to give Huckabee Sanders a pass here because she knew what kind of a job she was taking, but I think there is the definite possibility that she has no idea what the truth is anymore after living inside this fact-free bubble for the past year.

Besides she’s a Republican and they are born lying about everything.

(THREAD) The Constitution doesn’t allow a president to pardon himself—or any person with whom he has illegally conspired. No serious scholar believes “self-pardoning” is legal. This thread discusses why Trump’s latest claim is false and dangerous. I hope you’ll read and share it.

…..24/ Just as self-pardons are unconstitutional—and *themselves* grounds for impeachment—so too are pardons of those who’ve illegally conspired with a president. This prevents presidents from using pardons to *indirectly* self-pardon by ending probes that could reveal their crimes.

…..25/ That Trump is lying about what our Constitution says—and about what scholars say about what it says—is less harrowing than the fact that he thinks he’ll need to eventually self-pardon because he’s committed impeachable crimes.

With today’s BREAKING NEWS that—per George Papadopoulos’ wife, Simona Mangiante—Special Counsel Bob Mueller was about to charge Papadopoulos with being a secret *Israeli* agent when Papadopoulos agreed to cooperate, this thread from two weeks ago suddenly becomes *very* relevant.

DER SPIEGEL: “Abramson is a quintessential American figure: an underdog who became an involuntary hero.”

Many thanks to DER SPIEGEL—a German weekly news magazine—for its feature on Americans’ rejection of Trump, his crimes, and his autocratic ethos.

Army of Investigators Has Trump in Its Sights

Americans have been riveted in recent months to every new detail coming out of the ongoing investigation into possible collusion by the Trump campaign. An army of amateur investigators has managed to uncover new developments in the case. Who are they and what drives them?

President Nixon asked the Department of Justice if he could pardon himself. They said no, as no one may be the judge in their own case. He resigned three days later.

In case you want to follow the Nixon model, that would be Thursday.

Judge Napolitano Takes a Flamethrower to Trump Legal Team’s ‘Sophomoric’ Letter to Mueller: ‘A Disgrace’

…“I think that the letter was a disgrace and harmful,” Napolitano said. He added, “I don’t know how it got out. I don’t know why the White House would have leaked it as has been suggested. Because it shows a sophomoric view of the law.”

Napolitano argued that the Trump team’s claim that the president cannot be charged with obstruction of justice is bogus.

“He can [fire anybody he wants],” the judge said. “But if he does so for a corrupt purpose, that would be the definition of obstruction of justice. They forgot that part.”

    Napolitano added:

Shepard Smith Hammers Sarah Sanders, White House Over Conflicting Don Jr. Stories: ‘Somebody Is Lying’

Fox News’ Shepard Smith is far from impressed with Sarah Huckabee Sanders after she dodged questions over the new developments surrounding Donald Trump Jr‘s infamous Russian lawyer meeting at Trump Tower.

  5. Anonymous June 4, 2018 at 4:41 pm

Donald Trump and his team spent almost a year publicly and knowingly pushing a lie about the infamous Trump Tower meeting between a Russian lawyer, Donald Trump Jr., and other Trump campaign officials, a newly revealed memo shows.

According to The New York Times, Team Trump repeatedly told the press that he had nothing to do with drafting a false statement on his son’s behalf, but in a private memo, the president’s lawyers admitted that he did, in fact, dictate the misleading statement.

    More from the report:

So, not only is Trump now caught in (another) massive lie that adds more evidence to Mueller’s obstruction case, but he is proving that a moment of scrutiny in the witness chair would sink him.

It’s no wonder they are starting to float the idea of a presidential self-pardon.

  6. Anonymous June 4, 2018 at 4:43 pm

If Donald Trump thinks pardoning himself would push all of his legal and political problems under the rug, he is sorely mistaken.

According to MSNBC chief legal correspondent Ari Melber, if the president went ahead with a self-pardon, it would only fast-track his impeachment – or he would be forced to resign.

….Trump will face the same fate as Nixon if he pardons himself

With each passing day, Trump appears to be sprinting toward the same political cliff that Nixon threw himself off of at the tail end of his presidency. Just today, in fact, the president said he had the “absolute power” to pardon himself.

Eagles receiver destroys Trump tweets about White House visit: ‘So many lies smh’

….Eagles player Torrey Smith said on Twitter that no one planned on going to the celebration anyways. Smith called President Trump’s decision a “cowardly act.”

Smith said the White House seeks to spread a false narrative that football players are “anti-military.” He also mentioned that not one of the Eagles player kneeled during their last season.

Watergate prosecutors torch Trump White House excuses: ‘It’s what an emperor who has no clothes might claim’

” These are players who stand up for the causes they believe in and who contribute in meaningful ways to their community. They represent the diversity of our nation—a nation in which we are free to express our opinions.

Disinviting them from the White House only proves that our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend.”

  8. Anonymous June 4, 2018 at 5:35 pm

Monday’s episode of All in With Chris Hayes, two former Watergate prosecutors, Jill Wine-Banks and Nick Akerman, applied the lessons of Nixon’s impeachment to today’s political and legal landscape.

Hayes started the segment by pointing out that the White House’s position seems to be that the Mueller probe is “desperate, flailing nonsense.”

Akerman points out that the administration’s stance would be reasonable—if it were applied to the reign of King George, not a sitting US President.

    “This is snake-oil,” he said.

Jill Wine-Banks agreed. The powers Trump is laying claim to aren’t fitting for a sitting President, she pointed out, but rather something that an “emperor who has no clothes might claim,” she said.

The biggest difference between the Watergate era and today, they both point out, is that back then, there were some Republicans with backbones.

WATCH: CNN’s Cuomo corners flailing Rudy Giuliani on White House lies in trainwreck interview

Chris Cuomo made Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani squirm when he asked him why the White House had lied about President Donald Trump’s role in dictating a misleading statement about Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russian agents.

After noting that a leaked letter written by Trump’s legal team showed that they admitted that Trump had dictated the statement — directly contradicting White House officials who insisted otherwise in 2017 — Cuomo bluntly asked Giuliani, “Why did they choose to lie about his role in drafting this statement?”

Giuliani responded by laughing nervously and replied that Cuomo shouldn’t accuse them of lying when, in reality, they had merely made “a mistake.”

“That’s a lot of mistakes,” Cuomo said.

Giuliani stuck with this line, however, and insisted nothing nefarious had gone on even though the White House on Monday refused to explain its rationale for claiming that Trump had nothing to do with drafting the statement.

“It was a mistake!” the former New York mayor insisted. “I swear to God, it was a mistake. The guy made a mistake. He corrected it.”

Cuomo then played clips of Trump attorney Jay Sekulow and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders flat-out saying that Trump had nothing to do with the statement before turning back to Giuliani.

“Somebody is lying,” Cuomo said. “It’s not the kind of information that you would get wrong, that you wouldn’t be privy to, that would change. Somebody is lying about this, Rudy, and I don’t understand why.”

““Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aid, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols,” Trump tweeted just months before pardoning Saucier. “She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember sailors pictures on submarine? Jail! Deep State Justice Dept must finally act? Also on Comey & others.””

‘prosecutors argued he had endangered national security by taking photos of the submarine’s propulsion system and reactor compartment and then obstructed justice by destroying a laptop and camera. Saucier claimed he wanted the pictures for service mementos. He was pardoned by Trump in March and plans to claim in his lawsuit that Obama and the other defendants treated him with unequal protection under the law.”
