Russia, Russia, Russia!

There is a load of Russia stuff that came out yesterday and today so let’s start wading through it, shall we?

First off Trump’s Twitter freak out this morning.

Well well if they say they didn’t do it why wouldn’t we trust the Kremlin more than our own intelligence agencies?

Oh, but he was not done yet.

Okay, that was fairly nonsensical but I think the gist in Trump speak was “No collusion”, “Why isn’t Hillary in jail like I promised on the campaign trail?”, “The FBI is out to get me.”, “And Robert Mueller is a secret Democrat with too many conflicts of interest to lead this investigation.”

Of course that last part is completely untrue and the first part is just ridiculous.

It should be mentioned that Putin gets these tweets from Trump in his daily briefing as official statements.

So when Trump attacks the Russia investigation you know the audience that he is reaching.

Speaking of the Mueller investigation, apparently, it uncovered a 10 million dollar loan between Paul Manafort and a Russian oligarch.

A search warrant application unsealed on Wednesday revealed closer links than previously known between President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort and a Russian oligarch with close ties to the Kremlin.

In an affidavit attached to the July 2017 application, an FBI agent said he had reviewed tax returns for a company controlled by Manafort and his wife that showed a $10 million loan from a Russian lender identified as Oleg Deripaska.

The application to search Manafort’s Virginia apartment was granted, providing key evidence for Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s indictments of Manafort as part of his investigation into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Sounding less like a witch hunt every day.

It also appears that a Russian company is using Trump tactics to discredit the Special Counsel as well.

Courtesy of CNN:

A Russian company accused of bankrolling a vast online campaign to influence the 2016 US election joined the attacks against special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation on Monday.

Concord Management and Consulting argues that Mueller’s appointment as special counsel was unlawful and that he lacked the authority to charge the Russian company with conspiracy.

So to be clear Trump’s constant attempts to undermine the Russia probe are providing Russian companies under investigation with fodder that can then be used to challenge the very legitimacy of the Special Counsel.

He’s such a help, isn’t he?

In other news, it appears that Russia wants to be the dictator of the world.

Courtesy of Newsweek:

Russia has come out strongly against Canada’s decision to legalize recreational marijuana, calling the move a “breach” of its “international legal obligations.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that a number of international conventions, to which Canada is a signatory, require privy nations to restrict the use of cannabis and other drugs to only medical and scientific purposes.

“We expect Canada’s partners in the G-7 to respond to its ‘high-handedness’ because this alliance has repeatedly declared its adherence to the domination of international law in relations between states,” the ministry said in an official statement.

Well, that seems a touch heavy-handed.

I guess the underlying message here is that if the Russian people have to be depressed and hate life, then by god so do the people in every other country.

After all, why should THEY get to feel mellow?

By the way, the Russian people are a little hyped about the upcoming summit between their fearless leader and his puppet.

“What trouble did we cause? We just elected Trump. That’s all.”

Yep, that’s all.

And now here we are.  Kids being thrown in cages, racial and ideological divides at an all-time high, and the end of Roe vs Wade right over the horizon.

Vladimir Putin could not be running the country better himself.

“subpoenaed to appear before the grand jury hearing evidence in the Russia investigation and to hand over documents.”
“The right-wing National Legal and Policy Center, which is funding Miller’s defense, tells the Times that its goal is nothing less than shutting down the entire Mueller probe.

“The founders feared exactly what we see in Mueller: a runaway federal official,” the organization said. “We hope to see Mueller’s operation disbanded, once and for all.””

    $o there!

    OT: FB>”
Your enemy launches a scud missile.
Remember those from the Gulf War? Scuds are not particularly advanced or modern. Nor are they particularly accurate. But the warhead is powerful and they’ll kill you just the same.
What’s the most effective way to stop one of these things?
    Anybody know?
See, a scud is ballistic missile. The missile’s rocket booster lobs it into a ballistic arc at about Mach 5 — 1715 meters per second or about 3800MPH. It can fall anywhere from 50 to 400 miles.
How do you shoot something like that down?
The physics of intercept for even a simple missile like a scud are just barely possible. It’s called hitting a bullet with a bullet.
And to shoot down more modern, more powerful weapons?
    Theoretically, sure.
In practice? Impossible to any EFFECTIVE degree.
Once the missile is in the air, once the siren sounds, well, the smart money is on getting yourself to shelter, because the odds of shooting one down are more luck than anything else.
And luck favors the enemy as often as it does you.
Which is why the only truly effective countermeasure is to hunt down the missile launchers and stop them BEFORE they can fire.
If the enemy can’t get a missile in the air, you don’t have to shoot it down.
It’s a lot of work though, finding the launchers. It’s tedious and there’s no glory in it. And it’s only part of a larger interlinked, overlapping defensive system. But it has to be done, because that’s really the only way to protect your people.
Which brings me to my point:
Maybe you can stop Trump from appointing a Supreme Court Justice. Maybe.
But the odds aren’t good. The legal physics might just be possible, in theory.
    But in practice?
I’d start looking for shelter, were I you.
You see, the only really effective countermeasure would have been to stop this before it could happen.
But THAT, well, that takes work. You gotta show up. Every time. You got to find and neutralize all of your adversaries. It’s tedious and there’s no glory in it.
And in case my rather heavy handed analogy isn’t clear: we wouldn’t be facing this if liberals had shown up in 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018.
See, our government was designed to be a balanced system of interlocking safety checks. But that all falls apart when you don’t show up, if you give it all over to your adversaries.
There is no check on Trump now.
You were warned. You were told this would happen.
    The sirens are sounding.
The sirens have BEEN sounding for a long time.
The warheads are flying and some of us are going to be at ground zero.
If THOSE casualties aren’t enough motivation for you to show up and do your duty to the Republic, then the blood is, in part, on your hands.”Be a better Citizen.
