Paul Manafort’s attempts to arrange plea deal before second trial blocked by Robert Mueller.

It looks like somebody has lost confidence in receiving any presidential pardons.

Courtesy of WSJ:

Paul Manafort’s defense team held talks with prosecutors to resolve a second set of charges against the former Trump campaign chairman before he was convicted last week, but they didn’t reach a deal, and the two sides are now moving closer to a second trial next month, according to people familiar with the matter.

The plea discussions occurred as a Virginia jury was spending four days deliberating tax and bank fraud charges against Mr. Manafort, the people said. That jury convicted him on eight counts and deadlocked on 10 others. Prosecutors accused Mr. Manafort of avoiding taxes on more than $16 million he earned in the early 2010s through political consulting work in Ukraine.

The plea talks on the second set of charges stalled over issues raised by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, one of the people said. It isn’t clear what those issues were, and the proposed terms of the plea deal couldn’t immediately be determined.

Representatives for Messrs. Manafort and Mueller declined to comment.

The talks were aimed at forestalling a second, related trial for Mr. Manafort, which is scheduled to begin on Sept. 17 in Washington.

This represents a complete about-face for Manafort who up until this point seemed uninterested in making a plea deal and seemed determined to take his chances with a jury trial.

This is especially interesting since there were various news reports that Trump had discussed granting Manafort a presidential pardon if things went badly for him in court.

Now it appears that Manafort has no confidence that a pardon is in his future, and seems eager to join Cohen, Papadopolous, Pecker, and Weisselberg as former Trump folks who have made a deal to protect themselves in exchange for dropping a dime on Donald Trump.

Can you say “screwed,” Paulino? Of course you can.
It seemed like such a good idea at the time, entering the fray, now didn’t it?

“According to the Democratic congressman, Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy – the chairman of the House Oversight Committee – hasn’t issued a single subpoena to investigate any of the many credible allegations of incompetence and criminal corruption during the Trump administration. Zero.

“They have just been utterly unwilling to do their jobs,” Rep. Schiff said. “It’s really quite breathtaking.””
“all you need to know about the current GOP congress’s unwillingness, complete abdication of any oversight responsibility, you can tell from a single statistic. And that is the chairman of the government oversight and reform committee, Trey Gowdy, who brought us the endless Benghazi investigations, hasn’t issued a single subpoena during the Trump administration to investigate any allegations of incompetence or corruption within the Trump administration. They have just been utterly unwilling to do their jobs.” ” it is a sign, and we certainly see it on the intelligence committee, where the only subpoenas they seemed intent on issuing were to investigate the investigators.” “For over a year and a half, the GOP has actively worked to prevent serious investigations. They’ve done nothing but provide cover for Trump.”

““Are you sure you want your client to go on trial twice?” the host said, mimicking the judge’s point of view. “You want two federal felony trials?”

The government gave the defense “the option to just go on trial once,” but they chose not to take them up, Maddow continued.

“The judge is like, ‘OK, it’s your funeral,’””

I am thinks Manafort worked for no salary on the campaign so he could facilitate Russian sanctions be dropped and probably wipe out some Manafort’s Russian debt. Trump was on board to remove sanctions in exchange for Kremlin backing him or doing him a solid LOL. There is something there between the two and Russia. I look forward to Mueller’s team getting to the truths.

Fairly simple – one of those guys recently flipped has a shit ton of _____on T.Rump. SO Manafort knows if T.Rump is indicted, or impeached he can’t get pardon, Or, it’s state court stuff that Manafort will be implicated in – no pardon. And, he can be tried again for the mistrail verdicts in state court.

Alternatively, ther’s someone out there who is now close to being indicted and flipping (Don Jr?) who will make Manafort’s info valueless – my guess is he’s already too late.

I smile when Trump’s fools think that he (Trump) has as any loyalty toward them. My smile gets even bigger when these fools discover the truth and their very unhappy fate.

It also indicates that Mueller doesn’t need him. Their plea obviously over-reached what Mueller was willing to give for what he already knows. Mueller probably has other paths to the same confirmation and doesn’t need Manafort. Could be Manafort is the one he’d rather see nailed. Maybe as a warning to others. And Mueller is confident that Manafort will be found guilty.

His lawyers have egg all over their faces. So many guilty verdicts with the really serious charges yet to be heard, a pardon looking less and less useful, and the prosecution doesn’t need Manafort to play ball…. I bet Rick Davis is treating himself tonight.

    Is Barron OK?

    • JohnBaronMiller August 28, 2018 at 7:01 am

      ‘Little Donald.’

“At only two years old, Barron scolded Senecal from his high chair when the butler was serving breakfast. “Tony! Sit down! We need to talk!,” Barron reportedly demanded.”
“She raved of her son, “He is a very strong-minded, very special, smart boy. He is independent and opinionated and knows exactly what he wants. Sometimes I call him ‘Little Donald.’”

THE PLAN! ‘ believes he is on a mission from GOD — to become president “Absolutely everything Mike Pence does is oriented toward him becoming president. His decision to accept Donald Trump’s offer to be his running mate — it even goes back much further. By the time he had left high school, he had decided that he was going to be president of the United States… He thought God was calling him to, now, be vice president and function as a president-in-waiting.” “CNN host John Berman asked D’Antonio if he thinks that the vice president is scheming and manipulating in order to get to the Oval Office at Trump’s expense.
“Oh, I think yes,” “I think he’s positioning himself to be the normal guy — the guy you can trust.””

“In the book the authors write that the vice president’s steady rise in politics through the years has been carefully calculated.” 666pence says “he is “Rush Limbaugh on decaf.”

‘”It presents an entirely damning portrait of Pence. Pence—who proclaims himself a Christian first, a conservative second, and a Republican third—has long worn a carefully-constructed mask of Midwestern nice.”
“follow the path Pence followed from Catholic Democrat to conservative evangelical Republican.” “a prodigious fundraiser from the GOP’s billionaire benefactors; and how, once he locked in his views on the issues—anti-gay, pro-gun, anti-abortion, pro big-business—he became laser-focused on his own pursuit of power.” 666Pence is now positioned to seize the big prize—the presidency—and use it to fashion a nation more pleasing to his god and corporate sponsors.”

“Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes traveled to London this month to dig up dirt on Christopher Steele, the ex-M16 spy responsible for the dossier alleging a conspiracy between Trump and Moscow officials prior to the 2016 election, according to a Tuesday report from The Atlantic. But the elite national-security agencies with which Nunes reportedly requested meetings—MI5, MI6, and Britain’s Government Communications Headquarters—all denied him access. A source told The Atlantic the organizations were wary of Nunes’ overtures, and believed he may have been “trying to stir up a controversy.” This isn’t the first time Nunes has gone after Steele: Last summer, two of his aides traveled to London without the U.S. Embassy or British government’s approval in an attempt to speak with the former spy; the aides were subsequently turned away by Steele’s lawyer. The Atlantic adds that Nunes, a California Republican and Trump ally, is one of the few continuing to work to discredit Steele and other elements of the Russia probe.” The Daily Beast

A”judge overseeing the upcoming second trial of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort on Tuesday approved the prosecution’s request to allow evidence about a Justice Department inspection of Manafort’s lobbying activities in the 1980s but limited the scope of what it can show.

The ruling by Judge Amy Berman Jackson represents a partial win for Special Counsel Robert Mueller ahead of Manafort’s second trial, set to begin next month in Jackson’s federal courtroom in Washington.”<rawstory

(The bank also happened to be linked to one of the Belize-based shell companies also tied to Manafort.)
“lobal Witness’ investigation found, companies with accounts at AUB maintained “significant indicators that suggest money laundering: hundreds of millions of dollars seemed to be moving through their accounts while they were not engaged in any real business activity.” One company even apparently used a dead Russian to mask the identity of someone passing $700 million through the company’s AUB account.”
” As one former Kyrgyz official told ThinkProgress about Dole, “I remember being disgusted by how cheap U.S. politicians [were] on sale.”

The Western partners that AUB had, they came running to us saying, “We can’t possibly continue clearing your dollar and Euro transactions, because even though this is Russia, it just doesn’t look good on us to continue doing this.” ” Back in 2006, the Russian Central Bank issued a letter basically instructing its client banks to suspend all operations with AUB” “when I met him, and he looked at the presentation and was open to it, it was just a revelation. It was absolutely surreal.” “he was there for the MonEy.”
