He was charged with 18 counts of tax evasion, bank fraud and hiding foreign bank accounts in the first case Mueller brought to trial as part of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US election.

The trial carries major implications for the future of Mueller’s investigation. Trump has repeatedly called the probe a “witch hunt” that hasn’t found evidence of Russian collusion with his campaign, and his allies in and out of the White House say the special counsel should wrap things up.

Prosecutors say Manafort collected $65 million in foreign bank accounts from 2010 to 2014 and spent more than $15 million on luxury purchases in the same period, including high-end clothing, real estate, landscaping and other big-ticket items.

Track the latest developments in the trials of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

They also allege that Manafort lied to banks in order to take out more than $20 million in loans after his Ukrainian political work dried up in 2015, and they accused him of hiding the foreign bank accounts from federal authorities. Manafort received loans from the Federal Savings Bank after one of its executives sought a position in the Trump campaign and administration, according to prosecutors.

So much for the Russia probe being called a “witch hunt.”

Witch hunts do not result in convictions.

You know people knew Paul Manafort was a crook before Trump hired him to run his campaign, and yet he hired him anyway.

Perhaps that is WHY he hired him in the first place.

Remember Manafort is still facing another trial.

  2. WA Skeptic August 21, 2018 at 1:58 pm

    Oh, good. NEXT!!!

  3. Anon August 21, 2018 at 1:58 pm

Manafort can still make a deal as I understand it if he has valuable information to tell. It is possible considering a second trial.

    • Anonymous August 21, 2018 at 3:02 pm

Convicted on 8 and mistrial on 10. If he’s smart he’ll cut that deal now before he’s retried on those 10 counts.

But he still has another trial coming on even worse charges.

Manafort is never going to walk a free man. Even if he gets pardoned on Federal crimes there are still plenty of state crimes to nail him.

He’s done. So is Cohen. Next up is Broidy.

  4. Anonymous August 21, 2018 at 2:07 pm

Now tie the crooked money to Trump. We all know he’s involved up to his eyeballs in Manafort and Cohen and Russian given money. Can you imagine Trump saying no to Putin when the offer was made?

  5. Palins are on the ash heap of history August 21, 2018 at 2:16 pm

Manafort guilty and Cohen is pleading guilty. Is it wrong to have an orgasm over Mango Hitler’s bad day?

  6. Anonymous August 21, 2018 at 2:32 pm

And he’s still got another trial to go.

Meanwhile Cohen cut a deal and admitted he colluded on the 2016 election and Trump was in on it. No pardon for him. This is STATE court.

Wonder if Trump can feel that noose tightening yet.

Maybe next Rudy will claim that guilty isn’t guilty and convicted isn’t convicted.

    • Anonymous August 21, 2018 at 4:46 pm

No. This is federal court, SDNY (United States Court for the Southern District of New York.) Trump could pardon him. He probably will, though that would be really, really stupid.

Georgia officials plan to close seven polling places in a predominately poor black county. It would be a three hour walk to the remaining two polling locations. One of the polling places they want to close is 96.7 % black. And yes, the ACLU is on this.

I wonder if Chief Justice Roberts is paying attention?

Supposedly one of the reasons given is that there are no toilet facilities that are equipped to ADA standards. Gee, I’m surprised there are any toilet facilities for voters in poor, rural, largely African-American precincts in Georgia.

OT I sought information of what a “perjury trap” is. Wikipedia has a definition and here is a link to the Washington Post article of why Trump does not want to testify.

Orgasm? save it for the impeachment and the treason trial. This is just some healthy schadenfreude.

    • Anonymous August 21, 2018 at 3:08 pm

Agreed! Now watch the orange anus pardon him.

The Trump administration was going to sell off land cut from protection at Grand Staircase. But now they’re not. Could it be because a 120 acre chink was right next to a parcel owned by Rep. Mike Noel who has opposed the monument from day one? I have to wonder if Zinke stopped this only because it saw the light of day and that those 16 parcels will be sold pn the sly when mo one is looking. And Noel will get his at bargain basement prices.

LOL, trump is such a good judge of character, he is still saying Manafort is a good guy. Right, tax fraud and hiding money overseas are criminal actions, so trump thinks criminals are good guys.

Bet trump is pooping in his pants, Mueller has his tax returns, how many counts of fraud has he committed? He is going to go bonkers at this rally tonight.

Cohen pleading guilt is far worse for trump at this point.

3 Down, 3-4 more to go!!!!!

    • Anon August 21, 2018 at 3:53 pm

I anticipate Trump will implode tonight, be off his chain and even huff and puff.
Just for a group laugh, recall when Trump stalked Hillary on stage during the debate? The SNL sketch was priceless.

  12. Whatevs August 21, 2018 at 3:14 pm

Wonder who/when should start investigating Palin’s use of campaign funds?

  13. Anonymous August 21, 2018 at 3:24 pm

LOL!!! Manifort and Cohen going to prison and now Duncan Hunter Retard California and his wife have been indicted on Federal campaign finance violations,

    • Anonymous August 21, 2018 at 3:44 pm

I was 17 when Nixon went down. Loving every minute of this, and I came from a conservative family!

    DRUMPf FEEL$ NOThing! tinydjt tweet>

I feel very badly for Paul Manafort and his wonderful family. “Justice” took a 12 year old tax case, among other things, applied tremendous pressure on him and, unlike Michael Cohen, he refused to “break” – make up stories in order to get a “deal.” Such respect for a brave man!
