New DNC rules would keep outsiders from seeking the party’s nomination for president.

Buh bye Bernie!

Courtesy of Yahoo News:

The Democratic National Committee’s rules and bylaws committee adopted a new rule on Friday that would prevent outsiders like Bernie Sanders from seeking the party’s nomination in the 2020 presidential race. The move seems to be the latest salvo in the ongoing jockeying over the party’s future that emerged following the at times bitter primary battle between Hillary Clinton and Sanders in 2016.

The new rule would force candidates in Democratic presidential primaries to state that they are Democrats, accept the party’s nomination if they win the 2020 primary and to “run and serve” as a member.

“At the time a presidential candidate announces their candidacy publicly, they must publicly affirm that they are a Democrat,” the rule says. “Each candidate pursuing the Democratic nomination shall affirm, in writing, to the National Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee that they: A. are a member of the Democratic Party; B. will accept the Democratic nomination; and C. will run and serve as a member of the Democratic Party.”

The rule seems like a clear response to Sanders, who caucuses with Democrats in the Senate but has steadfastly maintained his status as an independent. Sanders ran to the left of Clinton and identifies himself as a “democratic socialist.”

I have had nothing but disdain for third party candidates since the Ralph Nader debacle back in 2000. And as far as I’m concerned Sanders was running as a third party candidate on the Democratic ticket.

Whether we like it or not, we are currently a two-party political system and if a positive change is going to come it is going to come from within that framework.

I think as Democrats we should totally push for a more progressive platform at every opportunity, but we also have to remember that if we push too hard we end sliding several feet back from our goal when a conservative administration takes power.

We are right now seeing the Republicans working their fingers to the bone in order to dismantle Obamacare and keep in mind that it was THEIR fucking health care plan right up until Obama put his name to it.

Democrats have to keep in mind that we are playing the long game here, and not get distracted by the next bright and shiny socialist who wants to play in our sandbox.

Letting Bernie Sanders run as a Democrat was one of the dumbest things the DNC ever did.

“Inside Obama’s secret meetings with 2020 contenders”

“Still the reluctant leader of the Democratic Party, Obama has been providing counsel to Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and other presidential hopefuls.”

“Sanders, who has more respect for Obama and the work of his administration than is often portrayed, requested his meeting with the former president, held in mid-March, people told about that conversation confirmed.

They talked about the future of the party and their different roles in it. They talked about what the party should be focused on, and what would be distractions. Obama discussed his views on the differences between idealism and practicality, and Sanders responded with his.”

Oh, the Bernie Bros are gonna have a fit! Bernie has a Facebook page and I venture into his territory to see what his followers are saying and it ain’t pretty. They’re still blaming the DNC and Hillary for the fact that Bernie is not now president and they’re looking forward to him running again in 2020. One friend of mine, a Bernie supporter, still proudly sports a Bernie bumper sticker on her car. I often throw a few barbs towards Bernie’s Facebook people, asking them to explain exactly what Bernie has accomplished except spewing a lot of hot air and promises to provide universal health care; free college; and unicorns. Sorry, I have long been in politics and such goals are noble but very difficult to achieve. Look at Obama and Nancy Pelosi who were able to deliver a watered-down health care bill that would have been the start of the move towards universal health care if Hillary had been elected. Now, it has been gutted. And Bernie thinks that he, as a senator from a small state, who has delivered nothing of substance in the senate, is going to march right into the Oval Office and change the US to democratic socialism. Bernie complains about the DNC and I say the DNC allowed him to use its resources and then crap all over it when he didn’t win the nomination.

And, lest we forget, wife Jane Jetson Sanders wouldn’t let him quit until she’d pocketed a cool $10M.
After less than eighteen months of Trump, I don’t need a “get off my lawn” senior citizen that won’t do anything either.

This is the same Bernie Sanders that has never had a bill passed? The king of amendments to other peoples’ bills? The achiever of exactly zip in his decades in the US Senate?

BTW I have never been convinced that the Bros are Bernie fans, I still believe that they’re largely the homeless Ron Paul brigade with nowhere better to go. Their bad attitude, their ignorance, their blindness, their aggression, their attempts to bring down various Democratic politicians and political groups via dirty tricks….a boring old non-achieving fart like Bernie Sanders couldn’t ever engender so much penis-love, you’d have a to be a Neanderthal libertarian like Ron Paul for that. And as far as I recollect they tried to hijack the Alaska GOP the same way they tried to hijack the California Democratic party. It’s the women that support Bernie “women fantasize about rape” Sanders that I feel sorry for- but only a little bit sorry, because women can’t point to anything that Sanders has ever actually done that shows why they support him, it’s always about what he said… while Bernie Sanders is raking in millions from nothing but cheap talk. Really, there is no difference between the bullshit of Sanders and the bullshit of Palin and the bullshit of their supporters.

About time. Why would Sanders want to run as a Democrat when he is not a Democrat?

Besides, Sanders was/is NEVER going to win the presidency, in spite of what the Bernie bots want to believe.

I don’t care what anyone says…Hillary was the most qualified candidate to run for president ever. Ever! I am sick to death hearing about people vilifying her. She has endured decades of shit being heaped upon her and has retained her composure and dignity. Fuck the Bernie supporters…they gave us Trump.

      I’m 100% with you, Paticia.

Bernie should run with Melania in 2020.

Sorry, but lol. the Democratic party is in a shambles. And is insisting on living in the past, and finger pointing, instead of looking to the future.

They need to get beyond both Bernie AND Hillary.

The echo chamber is guaranteeing a Trump 2nd term. If you venture outside the bubble, Trump is doing what a lot of people have wanted in a President since,,,,, Reagan?

You might not like (or even hate) it or him, but this is reality. The other day Trump signaled that he might be for decriminalizing marijuana at the federal level.

If he does that. Game over folks.
