“Public service announcement, we are not your safe space. We are a news organization, we bring you the news. News comes from both sides. Opinions, even if you hate them, come from both sides. Yes, a journalist’s job is to find facts, but it is also our job to shed a light on what is happening in the country, what is happening in our communities. Shed a light on what people are saying and thinking, what motivates them even if you disagree with them. The news should make you uncomfortable if everything you read or watch give you comfort you’re doing it wrong.”
I thought that was very well said.
I’m not going to lie, the first part of this segment with the Trump supporters saying that they simply do not believe facts as reported by the media, made me cringe hard.
And the gentleman who suggested that Tucker Carlson was the most trusted cable news host made me die a little inside.
By the way, can you imagine anybody on Fox News suggesting that you avoid safe spaces and look for information from a variety of news sources? Yeah, not going to happen.
Katy Tur has rapidly become one of my favorite hosts over at MSNBC. She is smart, well informed, and brings a sense of joy to her job which in the age of Donald Trump is really quite an achievement.
