Michelle Obama says that for her and Barack making mistakes “was not an option.”

“Barack and I knew very early that we would be measured by a different yardstick,” Obama said. “Making mistakes was not an option for us. Not that we didn’t make mistakes, but we had to be good—no, we had to be outstanding—at everything we did.… When you’re the first, you’re the one that’s laying the red carpet down for others to follow.”

She also talked about how some people still refuse to see anything other than her skin color.

“It’s just a shame that sometimes people will see me, and they will only see my color, and then they’ll make certain judgments about that,” she said. “That’s dangerous, for us to dehumanize each other in that way. We are all just people.”

It must be amazing to Michelle and her husband that while they were criticized for literally every single decision that they ever made while in office, from her bare arms to his tan suits, this current White House occupant, who creates a new scandal almost every single day, remains largely untouched.

If you want to see just how racist this country is, then you need to look no further than that.

President Obama was so careful and meticulous with the decisions that he made while in office, and still, he was pilloried by both the Right and the Left for essentially every move he made.

Now here today we have an out of control dumpster fire in the White House and for some reason, it is still allowed to burn completely out of control.

Her post Facebook less than an hour ago: “When people ask how a girl from a working class family on the South Side of Chicago got to where I am, they think I’m some kind of unicorn. That stories like mine don’t exist. But the truth is, these stories simply aren’t told. BECOMING is about the ordinariness of a very extraordinary story. By telling it, I hope that people who feel faceless, invisible, or voiceless feel the pride in their story in the way that I feel about mine. Because when we share our stories, we are reminded of the humanity in each other. And when we take the time to understand each other’s stories, we become more forgiving, more empathetic, and more inclusive. I hope that when people read my story, they will share their own because we need as many stories as we can get.”

Of course her honor from the American Library Association was instantly poo-pooed by the you-know-whats in comments.

Michelle Obama’s very honest and true words will be used to attack her today in the media and over and over again for at least two weeks. It will start with Fox News and then proceed to tomorrow’s New York Times and Wash. Post. They’ll accuse her of being unkind to the third wife, to all those “supposedly” good people who voted for Trump and still support him, and to being a typical insensitive “liberal,” meaning that she stated something that is absolutely true. Many of us have been saying, to ourselves and in comments on the internet, that Michelle Obama would have been torn to shreds by the media had she ever done anything as gross, as mean, as cruel as the third wife did by wearing that jacket on her way to and from Texas last week. There would have been calls for her husband’s impeachment and for her arrest.

In redneck land, they are called, “uppity niggers.”
So sorry that you’ve been shown up, losers.

So true! Yet these same racists will tolerate an utter disaster Trump. But he’s white, so he gets an infinite number of chances, and people will always treat him with at least some respect. No one shouting him down at his state of the union address, that’s for damn sure.

Just tear down the Statue Of Liberty and be done with it. Do they even teach THAT in schools anymore?

Like when $arah was veep candidate, let’s get a piece of her!
Holy SHIT and then she and her family became nothing but tabloid fodder.

I don’t think even Sears Catalog would sit down with her.

I wonder if she “bought” that $39 off the rack jacket because she thought it might get “contaminated” when visiting the detention center. Considering she usually wears thousand dollar outfits.

Also the hypocrisy of her lecturing children about being kind to each other when her husband is out conducting his hate fest rallies is ridiculous, i wish some kid would ask her about that.

I like how Michelle said she told Malia that she should try to avoid ending up in the tabloids (which is impossible) but to make sure she lived life without thinking about what tabloids would say.

Reminds me of the Palins whove been victimized by liars and they mock trashy sites that accept lies for money. Even a 10 yr old Palin understands tabloid writers are mentally ill thanks to Bristol and her husband being up front about all the lies written by fucked up jealous people.

The US is a police state now. Americans should be out in the streets with pitchforks and torches, but instead they would rather shut up, cover their ears, and put their heads in the sand.

    Weird.
