A Florida man has been accused of threatening to shoot members of Congress and their families if Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is not confirmed.

Authorities said James Royal Patrick Jr posted a series of threatening messages on social media last week, one of which said, “Getting ready if Kav is not confirmed . . . whoever I think is to blame may God have mercy on their soul,” according to a statement from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Patrick, 53, of Winter Haven seemed to be referring to the Senate’s final vote on Mr. Kavanaugh, which is set to take place over the weekend. Proceedings have become highly charged amid allegations that the federal judge sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford when both were in high school.

Mr. Patrick was arrested this week on a charge of written threats to kill or injure and is being held on a $500,000 (£381,000) bond, according to booking records. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.

“The message is clear: People need to calm down and chill out. The Democrats aren’t the enemy. The Republicans aren’t the enemy. We are Americans – we’re all Americans and this is a great country and has always been a great country,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said at a news conference on Thursday. “For those of you in the community who think it’s all right to keep running that gum, beating that mouth together, understand this: When you threaten people – not just congressmen, not just law enforcement officers – when you threaten to kill, we’re going to lock you up.”

Mr. Judd said that in several “horrible” Facebook posts, Mr. Patrick threatened to kill Democrats and “weak” Republican members of Congress, as well as any federal or local law enforcement officers who attempted to thwart his plan.

Of course, he’s from Florida did I even need to check?

What a good plan, to kill everybody who opposes your way of thinking.

And you know the really troubling thing is that if this man had successfully changed even one vote through this kind of tactic that he would have been secretly lauded by the conservatives. Or perhaps not so secretly.

The Republicans can bitch about liberals protesting on Capitol Hill all they want, but at least we are not threatening to murder their families.

I was raised Catholic. Just after my Confirmation I came to the realization all religions were complete bullshitting nonsense. What changed my mind was why did any religious person need medical care since “God” would aid and protect. Right then and there I walked away and never looked back. My mom on the other hand decided prayer was better than medical care for my father who died of cancer even though there were clear signs something was dreadfully wrong with him a year before he died.

Obviously this man has been in the sun too much. It’s melted his brain. I wonder if anyone will state the obvious: he’s a wannabe domestic terrorist. I hope he spends a good amount of time in prison for his insane words.

This one strikes home to much for me. We have friends who live there. This guy would not make a very good neighbor, that’s for sure.

  3. this is why christians call liberals Godless. they ate too ignorant to see the message, because they MADE A FALSE IDOL OF THAT MESSAGE October 6, 2018 at 9:35 pm

Religion is to get the human to see its own condition. “The way” has everything to do with the way of the human seeing itself correctly, and yet, “the way” got instead taken literally as idolatry of something else. Its like the person in charge of providing the link, or “the way”, called in sick the day religious interpretations were being established.

Each human IS that link, IS ITSELF its’savior, is “the way”, so that saying “I am the way” about oneself is what is connoted by reading that in religious text. We have always been told to see that about ourselves, through symbolic representation of Jesus’ example, and yet the very ignorance of otherwise not seeing correctly has prevented the sight of that very ignorance!!!

Because we ARE “the way”, we save ourselves. (not in one finite span of life, though!!)

The “certainty” of the saving idol not only fictionalizes, but “takes care of all domestic issues” of the human, albeit in total darkness – leaving a lifetime arming the ignorant with guns and wars, a lifetime spent esoterically and entirely on “foreign affairs, of “the (fictional) other”.
“No need to self-examine – already saved!”
