Government demanding that immigrants pay for DNA tests in order to be reunified with their children.

That’s is just fucking disgusting!

Courtesy of the Daily Beast:

U.S. government officials recently told four immigrant women that they must pay for DNA tests in order to be reunited with their children, according to the shelter that housed the women.

The tests are the latest ad hoc effort by the Trump administration to reunite families it had separated—in some cases because authorities took documents from adults proving they are related to their children. The tests are being administered by a private contractor on behalf of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement, which oversees the care and housing of children. HHS has refused to name the contractor, which may be a violation of federal law.

“None of them have the money [for the tests], so it’s going to fall back on us to push back on that,” said Ruben Garcia, the director of Annunciation House, an immigrant shelter in El Paso where the women are staying.

Three of the women are mothers of the children, Garcia said, and the fourth is attempting to reunite with her brother, a three and half-year-old boy.

You know part of me just does not want to hear about all of this anymore.

It just keeps taking me to new levels of sadness that I have never quite felt before.

But then I realize that if we stop paying attention if we stop caring, that none of this will ever be fixed.

So we have to take in this sadness, convert it into rage, and then use that to inspire our activism to help bring about change.

“Far from restrictive, prosecutors said Manafort had been provided with a personal telephone in his cell, which he used for more than 300 calls with attorneys and others over the past three weeks.

Manafort also appears to have found a workaround to the restriction on electronic communication by reading and composing emails on a second laptop that is carried in and out of the cell by his legal team, the prosecutors said.

“When the team takes the laptop from the jail, it reconnects to the internet and Manafort’s emails are transmitted,” the prosecutors wrote.

Manafort’s lawyers did not respond to a request for comment.”

Wife of top Trump aide had radio show where she said women in military should expect sexual harassment

…During a 2009 episode of her radio show unearthed by CNN’s KFile, Shine admitted she was “sexist.”

“And you know what, I’m the first person to admit I’m sexist. I don’t think that girls should play on the boys’ high school team. I don’t think that the girls should be — I think it’s insanity that there are feminists who are stupid enough to fight to go to combat. Are you kidding me?” Shine opined.

    Then, she said this:

Why would you want to go die on the front line? You have to be an idiot. And why on earth would you fight to go on the submarine ship for months on end? You know there was just a story with these girls, these women who are upset that they are sexually harassed in the military. What do you think is going to happen when you go on a submarine for 12 months with 4,000 horny soldiers? I hate to say it, but it’s true. They should not even be allowed. The top military should say, ‘No way, you’re not allowed.’ But you know, but you know the feminists have fought for these rights. It’s so stupid. I don’t know why anybody would want that.”

It was not her only controversial remark made during her “Darla Shine Show,” a radio broadcast, which aired on Talk Radio Network in 2008 and 2009.

Trump’s Executive Order On Administrative Judges Will Cause Untold Harm

BREAKING: @realDonaldTrump @WhiteHouse releases Executive Order to end competitive selection process for Administrative Law Judges, making them political appointees who can be fired at will.

NEW: ‘This Is All Bogus, And It’s To Take Control Over The Judiciary’ — A Veteran Administrative Law Judge Slams Trump’s Order Making ALJs Political Appointees –

    https://www.beltwaybreakfast.com/courts/2018/07/11/this-is-all-bogus-and-its-to-take-control-over-the-judiciary-a-veteran-administrative-law-judge-slams-trumps-order-making-aljs-political-appointees/

…A lawyer friend wrote me last night:

This is just another incredibly depressing blow again an independent judiciary. Tens of hundreds of thousands of cases are heard before federal ALJs, including cases involving social security, immigration, employment discrimination, admiralty, advertising, antitrust, banking, communications, energy, environmental protection, food and drugs, health and safety, housing, interstate commerce, international trade, labor management relations, securities and commodities markets, disability and other benefits claims, and transportation.

According to the EO, agencies hiring ALJs will no longer have to go through the rigorous pooled hiring process, and the ALJs can be merely political appointments.

ALJs have always been viewed as above politics, unlike the appointment of federal judges. After the Kavanaugh nomination (some of my friends and former law professors went to school or worked with him, and declare him very nice, and very dangerous) and the clear contempt the Administration’s lawyers are showing the federal courts on family separation,

I’m just ready to sit on a beach with a bottle of vodka and cry for our hijacked legal system.

Taking a page out of Erdogan’s Turkey playbook. You must control the judiciary. This is nothing on his Kavanaugh appointment. Kavanaugh is big on extending presidential authority. According to him a president could murder someoneon 5th avenue and nothing would happen to him.

White House Spokesperson Says Trump Administration Won’t Rule Out Withdrawing From 1967 Treaty Governing Treatment Of Refugees

President Donald Trump has not ruled out attempting to withdraw the United States from the 1967 Protocol Relating to the Status of Refugees or asking Congress to amend the 1980 Refugee Act to make it harder for South or Central Americans fleeing violence and persecution to be granted asylum in the United States, White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah said Monday.

“I’m not ruling that out at some future date,” Shah said when asked if the president’s calls to deny due process to persons entering the country outside of ports of entry meant he was considering withdrawing from the 1967 treaty or amending the Refugee Act, both of which would be necessary for Trump to fulfill his goal of denying due process to persons claiming asylum in the United States outside of ports of entry.

Trump has ratcheted up his anti-immigrant rhetoric over the past week
The president’s anti-immigrant rhetoric has grown more strident in recent days as he has sought to save face after signing an executive order to end his administration’s policy of separating children from their parents when they claim asylum outside a port of entry. He has called American immigration policy “weak” because it entitles persons not present in the country legally to due process.

“We cannot allow all of these people to invade our Country. When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no Judges or Court Cases, bring them back from where they came,” Trump wrote in a tweet Sunday, days after pouring cold water on the idea of hiring more immigration judges to deal with a 700,000 case backlog.

Shah denied that President Trump was calling for the denial of due process to those claiming asylum or for any change in United States law or policy that would contravene either the 1967 Protocol, which the Senate ratified 59-0, or the 1980 act signed into law by then-President Jimmy Carter.

Because the 1967 treaty was ratified by the Senate, it has the same force of law within the United States as the 1980 law.

Combined, the two require the United States to allow a person to claim asylum and gain legal status if they are “outside his or her country of residence or nationality, or without nationality, and is unable or unwilling to return to, and is unable or unwilling to avail himself or herself of the protection of, that country because of persecution or a well-founded fear of persecution on account of race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion.”

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh earned praise from the NRA’s propaganda arm this week for his extremist views on assault weapons.

The NRA’s official propaganda arm is swooning over the prospect that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh will vote to keep assault weapons in circulation despite the danger to public safety.

Weapons like the AR-15 have been described as the “weapon of choice” for mass shooters. An AR-15 was used at Sandy Hook Elementary to gun down innocent toddlers and their teachers; in the Las Vegas mass shooting; and at Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Florida.

The bloody legacy of the AR-15 hasn’t stopped the NRA from hailing it as “America’s Rifle.”

Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) recently highlighted Kavanaugh’s gun extremism. Speaking to the survivors of the Parkland school shooting, Blumenthal explained, “If you care about common sense gun violence protection, Judge Kavanaugh is your worst nightmare.”

He added, “He is the worst nightmare of advocates of common sense, sensible measures to stop the epidemic of gun violence in this country.”

Kavanaugh has railed against efforts to ban the AR-15, and in a dissenting opinion made the extremist argument that “a ban on a class of arms …. is equivalent to a ban on a category of speech.”

While many Americans would recoil in horror at such a twisted outlook, the NRA loves it.

On NRA TV, which is completely owned and operated by the NRA, hosts swooned over Kavanaugh’s position on assault weapons.

Grant Stinchfield, host of the NRA-TV program “Stinchfield,” said Kavanaugh’s nomination was “a reward for our hard work.” He specifically highlighted Kavanaugh’s gun position, praising its extremism and lamenting the court’s “decision to unfortunately uphold the D.C. ban on so-called assault weapons.”

NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch, who mocked the victims of the Parkland shooting, has a show on NRA TV as well. She similarly gushed over Kavanaugh’s dissent without concerns about how his position helps mass shooters, and said she was “very pleased” with his words.

Cam Edwards, another NRA TV host, said he wished Kavanaugh’s assault weapon opinion “had carried the day,” and described his extremism as simply a “commonsense argument.”

How extreme is the NRA-Kavanaugh approach to assault weapons?

Only a so called businessman, known con artist would charge to return kidnapped kids.

I am sure the motive is to further humiliate and degrade these people.

    • Marthe July 12, 2018 at 6:23 am - Reply

The children of the asylum seekers were essentially kidnapped when they were wrenched forcefully from their parents’ arms at the border before their parents were imprisoned. Therefore, the fees now demanded for DNA testing before the children are returned are the equivalent of a ransom imposed by a kidnapper. Pay up or you won’t see your kid again…

Trump’s henchmen must be staying up at night thinking of the most cruel ways they can treat the asylum seekers in order to show the judge who is forcing them to return the children to their parents that they’re still in control. There’s a new dictator in town and he wants to have the last word and show everyone who’s boss.

This episode in American history will be added to the shameful list of slavery, Jim Crow, lynchings, segregation, Japanese internment camps, shunning of Jewish people fleeing persecution at the dawn of WWII, etc. (Read Howard Zinn for a more complete list)

In the next mid-term and presidential elections, the American people will have an opportunity to choose if it’s the type of country they want or not.

The rest of the world has already seen what kind of a person Trump is. They will see then if this is what America is also.

ACLU has already sued and won against the government for the government to pay all costs to reunite immigrant children with their parents. That includes DNA tests and transportation fees. I think the government is appealing the decision.

What gets me is this is a no brainer. The government should have paid to begin with. Having to sue them to force them to foot the bill is DEPLORABLE.

Our Federal government is guilty of kidnapping and extortion. That is on the REPUBLICANS. Democrats should be hammering that, as well as all of Trump’s other DEPLORABLE decisions for the mid term campaigns.
