Germany’s foreign minister said on Monday Europe could not rely on Donald Trump and needed to close ranks after the U.S. president called the European Union a “foe” with regard to trade.

“We can no longer completely rely on the White House,” Heiko Maas told the Funke newspaper group. “To maintain our partnership with the USA we must readjust it. The first clear consequence can only be that we need to align ourselves even more closely in Europe.”

He added: “Europe must not let itself be divided however sharp the verbal attacks and tweets may be.”

Germany now joins Canada and France as formerly friendly countries that have expressed fear America is no longer honoring their longtime alliances.

So Trump has systematically managed to turn our allies against us and destroy their trust in America.

I imagine he spent this morning bragging about that very fact to his Russian handler.

      Traitors, one and all.

We all knew it was coming, yet the sheer level of horrifying and humiliating ugliness of it was still jarring. Donald Trump, the supposed President of the United States, stood next to Russian President Vladimir Putin at a press conference today and all but surrendered to him. Trump could not have come off as more of a puppet of Russia if he had tried. This nightmarish display of treason and surrender was precisely what we needed right now.

Look around at the reaction. At least three Fox News hosts have slammed Trump for the press conference. John McCain just slammed him for it. Former CIA Director John Brennan just called him “treasonous.” Paul Ryan felt compelled to put out a statement contradicting Trump’s assertion that Putin didn’t meddle in the election. Trump’s own handpicked Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats just put out a statement directly contradicting Trump. But that’s nothing compared to the public reaction.

Donald Trump didn’t write this tweet about Vladimir Putin

Showtime Says Sacha Baron Cohen Never Pretended to Be Disabled Vet, Despite Sarah Palin’s Claim

…Palin revealed last week she was one of Cohen’s victims, and claimed he impersonated a disabled veteran to dupe her — causing some outrage over the stunt.

But now the pay cabler is denying Cohen’s character, Billy Wayne Ruddick Jr., Ph.D. who interviewed Bernie Sanders in the show’s premier, is a veteran. Watch that clip above.

“There has been widespread misinformation over the past week about the character of Billy Wayne Ruddick Jr., Ph.D., performed by Sacha Baron Cohen on the Showtime comedy series ‘Who Is America?’” the statement read. “Baron Cohen did not present himself as a disabled veteran, and viewers nationwide who watched the premiere on Sunday can now attest to that. In Sunday’s episode, during an interview with Senator Bernie Sanders, Baron Cohen in character as Dr. Ruddick was asked by the Senator if he is disabled, and he stated that he is not and uses a mobility scooter to conserve his energy. In addition, Baron Cohen never presented himself as a veteran of the U.S. military to former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin during the booking process or during the filming of her interview, and contrary to her claims he did not appear in a wheelchair. In both the interview with Governor Palin and the interview with Senator Sanders, he did not wear military apparel of any kind.”

The mobility scooter is in your court, Sarah.

Republicans Pan Trump’s ‘Bizarre’ Press Conference With Putin
Trump’s refusal to condemn Putin “will be seen by Russia as a sign of weakness,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

…“No prior president has ever abased himself more abjectly before a tyrant,” McCain said in a statement. “Not only did President Trump fail to speak the truth about an adversary; but speaking for America to the world, our president failed to defend all that makes us who we are—a republic of free people dedicated to the cause of liberty at home and abroad.”

Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) dubbed Trump’s decision to hold both countries responsible for poor U.S.-Russia relations as “bizarre” and “flat-out wrong.”

“The United States is not to blame,” he said in a statement. “America wants a good relationship with the Russian people but Vladimir Putin and his thugs are responsible for Soviet-style aggression. When the President plays these moral equivalence games, he gives Putin a propaganda win he desperately needs.”

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on Monday defended the intelligence community against Trump’s attempts to once again undermine its credibility by refusing to blame Russia for election meddling.

“From the President on down, we must do everything in our power to protect our democracy by securing future election from foreign interference, regardless of what Vladimir Putin or any other Russian operative says,” Hatch said in a statement.

CIA officer turned GOP lawmaker is stunned to see the president being manipulated by Russia

‘I’ve seen Russian intelligence manipulate many people over my professional career and I never would have thought that the US President would become one of the ones getting played by old KGB hands.’

MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace: ‘All he had to do is not put on jammies and crawl into bed with Vladimir Putin — and he couldn’t even do that’

…“I can’t think of a better word,” he began. “This was so easy, Nicolle. This was so easy for President Trump. We had such low expectations for this summit. All he had to do, just push back a little bit on some basic things to look like he was defending America’s national interest, our sovereignty. And instead, he chose very deliberately not to push back on Vladimir Putin and on the contrary, lavish praise on him.”

He also noted that he looks at foreign policy not from a Democratic or Republican perspective but from the vantage point of how it advanced American national interest. “And I can’t think of one place where that happened today,” he said.

“Can I just disagree slightly?” began Wallace. “I think the bar was even lower than what you describe. All he had to do was not put on jammies and crawl under the covers with Vladimir Putin and he couldn’t do that. He didn’t have to push back at all for his supporters and all the Republicans we put up before to simply give him a pass. He didn’t even meet his own low bar for not screwing this up.”

Russian NRA member charged with spying to infiltrate US politics

Maria Butina — a key figure connecting Russia to the the NRA and Republican politicians nationwide — was just charged for spying on behalf of Russia.

On Monday, federal prosecutors charged Russian national Maria Butina, a lifetime member of the NRA, with being an unregistered agent of the Russian government and accused her spying for Moscow while she studied in the United States.

The move comes as questions continue to escalate about the NRA’s Russian connections during the 2016 campaign.

The indictment was also unsealed just hours after Trump stunned world observers during his joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin. There, Trump accepted Putin’s word over the U.S. intelligence community and seemed to agree that Russia had nothing to do with attacking U.S. elections in 2016.

According to the new spying charges, one goal of the conspiracy that Butina allegedly took part in was to “exploit personal connections with U.S. persons having influence in American politics in an effort to advance the interests of the Russian Federation.”

She allegedly used these connections to “infiltrate organizations active in U.S. politics,” the criminal complaint states.

One of the contacts she had was with an “organization promoting gun rights,” which was identified as the NRA.

(MUST-SEE VIDEO) The Russian national who asked this question of Trump about sanctions, Maria Butina, was just charged with a major crime. There’s *every possibility* that Trump knew this woman when he called on her—as her boss says he’s a friend of Trump.

NEW: I can confirm that the US Congressman who allegedly met with Butina and Torshin in August 2015 in Moscow was Dana Rohrabacher.

Congressional records show that Rohrabacher and Paul Behrends were in Moscow in August 2015:

    • Anonymous July 16, 2018 at 3:35 pm

Trump meeting Torshin at a 2014 or 2015 NRA event will now be scrutinized, as will Trump Jr. dining with Butina’s boss, as will the NRA brass’s trip to Moscow during the presidential campaign, as will *so* much else—things are getting *very* close to Trump and *very fast* indeed.

2/ One thing we see confirmed here, too, is that the theory of the case many of us have worked under since January 2017—that this is all about Russia seeking influence with and making promises to Trump and associates near and far in order to change sanctions policy—was *correct*.

    • Anonymous July 16, 2018 at 3:37 pm

Here’s my tweet from two months ago saying “Maria Butina [is] about to become a major focal point” of Mueller’s investigation. As I noted, the charge against her and any upcoming charges against Torshin will—like much else (e.g. Friday’s DCLeaks revelations)—burn Trump Jr. first.

    • Anonymous July 16, 2018 at 3:38 pm

This affidavit unsealed today against Russian national Mariia Butina is incredible. This Twitter DM she sent to a Russian official discusses how one political party, apparently the GOP, is “for us” while the other, Democrats, is “against” us.

“Our move here is very important.”

    • Anonymous July 16, 2018 at 3:40 pm

Do people realize how *crazy* this is? On what *basis* could Donald Trump “disagree” with intelligence brought to him by his own hand-picked Director of National Intelligence? This is literally Trump taking Putin’s word over *anything else*. *Even his own Republican colleagues*.

4/ If Trump called on Butina knowing she was a Russian agent—as Mueller says she is—he answered her question intending to send a clear message to Vladimir Putin, in Summer 2015, just weeks after he’d announced his run, knowing that he was communicating directly with the Kremlin.

Today Trump gave Putin ten years’ worth of anti-American propaganda, attacked America on foreign soil, threw US intelligence services under the bus, let Putin lie repeatedly without correction, and refused to criticize America’s chief foe—all after a secretive 130-minute meeting.

    Trump’s Helsinki humiliation

Trump’s Sad, Weak Encounter With Putin

…This is the aspect of the encounter with Putin that may haunt Trump long after the arguments over its substantive meaning — in terms of U.S.–Russia relations, U.S.–E.U. relations, and the investigations into Russian election meddling and alleged collusion with the Trump campaign — have either faded or given way to horrifying new revelations. In the brightest international spotlight side by side with the foreign leader he has most admired for his toughness, Donald Trump looked weak and submissive, incapable of expressing any sort of righteous indignation at even the most blatant bad behavior by Russia. His soon-to-be-infamous suggestion that he thought Putin might be more credible than U.S. intelligence agencies on the subject of Russia’s election interference is obviously disturbing in itself. But delivered in Putin’s own presence it came across as the act of a toady or at least someone who is extremely conflict-averse — which is exactly 180 degrees away from the persona Trump has worked so hard to present.

The fatal “w” word seems to be popping up in many reactions from people normally predisposed to defend Trump:

Trump ‘getting played’ by Putin: Shock and fury among Texans on both sides as president defends Russia

…”I’ve seen Russian intelligence manipulate many people over my professional career and I never would have thought that the US President would become one of the ones getting played by old KGB hands,” he tweeted. “There is nothing about agreeing with a thug like Putin that puts America First.”

And he added: “To all our allies: there are still many of us in Congress that know Russia is not just an adversary to the United States but to freedom loving people everywhere.”

With Trump more isolated on Russia, Putin could see few gains from summit’
