Former NASA astronaut Mark Kelly’s “next mission” is to be a US senator for Arizona.

“I care about people. I care about the state of Arizona. I care about this nation. So because of that, I’ve decided that I’m launching a campaign for the United States Senate,” Kelly said in a video released Tuesday announcing his run as a Democratic candidate.

Kelly, 54, is the husband of former Rep. Gabby Giffords, D-Arizona, who survived a shooting in 2011. The two appeared together in Kelly’s announcement video, recounting that difficult period in their lives and Giffords’ rehabilitation from the gunshot wound.

“I learned a lot from being an astronaut. I learned a lot from being a pilot in the Navy. I learned a lot about solving problems from being an engineer,” Kelly says in the campaign announcement video. “But what I learned from my wife is how you use policy to improve people’s lives.”

I think most of us know Mark Kelly due to his marriage to Gabby Giffords, but he is quite an accomplished man in his own right.

It is hard to imagine the kind of dedication and bravery it takes to leave this planet and work in space as an astronaut, but if he brings even half of that to the Senate he is going to blow most of those other Senators away.

As for integrity, well we all got to see what Kelly was made of after his wife was brutally gunned down back in 2011.

And his determination to end gun violence after that incident speaks to his courage in taking on the big issues and fighting against entities with truckloads of money.

It should be noted that Mark Kelly is likely a more centrist Democrat so he may not lean as far Left as some purists would demand, but the guy is smart, dedicated, and fearless.

That’s good enough for me.

In their book “Gabby” Kelly details the Crosshairs ad from Palin’s PAC & Palin’s subsequent rallying slogan, “Don’t retreat! Instead RELOAD”. Remember when Palin said she was going to call Gabby Giffords after the shooting to see how she was doing? Giffords & Kelly never did receive that call.

Trump & Palin – spewing hate with every breath.

He will bring Sarah to Arizona, and to justice, for sarahs attempted murder of Gabby.
Seeing that happen is the dying last wish of most Americans, plus everyone else on the planet.
No reloading this time, sarah, you cucking funt.

Having been married to a legislator, one might presume Kelly would need less on the job training than, say, John Glenn did. I wish I could vote for him from Virginia; some folks, like Kelly, virtually ooze integrity. And my God, don’t we need as much of that restored as we can get?!

    And he’ll win!
