An off-duty FBI agent dancing at a Denver nightclub accidentally discharged a firearm, wounding another patron in the leg, police said Saturday.

The victim, an adult male, was taken to a local hospital in good condition, said Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson. Police refused to identify the hospital.

Jackson said the agent, whose identity wasn’t released, was dancing at the downtown club around 12:45 a.m. Saturday when the firearm fell from the agent’s waistband holster onto the floor. It discharged when the agent picked it up.

Police investigators interviewed the agent before releasing the agent to an FBI supervisor. The police investigation was continuing, and any charges would be determined by the Denver District Attorney’s Office, said Officer Marika Putnam.

To be fair he’s not a bad dancer.

And he might be a good FBI agent.

But as an example of gun safety, he sucks pretty bad.

Now look I am not saying that this agent should not carry a gun while off duty. As a law enforcement professional, he might be called to duty at any time.

However, this incident also suggests that having guns in everyday situations do not keep people safer, but rather increases their chances of being shot.

Even when carried by trained professionals.

Notice how the gun did not fire on impact, but only after the agent picked it up…by the trigger.

And he is trained to handle guns.

Just imagine school teachers walking around similarly armed.

Well, the agent was off duty in a bar…maybe he was drinking…shit happens!

Thank you, Gryph, I was going to say the same thing.
Sad to say, but I don’t have much respect for those supposedly “protecting” us anymore.

No kidding. Arming teachers is a horrible idea.

More guns equals more shooting. I have a conservative parent who believes that arming just about anyone will make people safer. The only thing that will happen is even more shootings. People will lose their lives over stupid arguments in the heat of the moment. There will be more accidental shootings, especially involving kids. Insanity.

FBI agents are suppose to carry their gun even when off duty.

Two of my relatives were agents.
