27% of Americans support tearing families apart at the border. Unless they are Republicans, then it is 46%.

Courtesy of the Daily Beast:

The poll of roughly 1,000 adults aged 18 and over, and conducted June 14-15, asked respondents if they agreed with the following statement: “It is appropriate to separate undocumented immigrant parents from their children when they cross the border in order to discourage others from crossing the border illegally.”

Of those surveyed, 27 percent of the overall respondents agreed with it, while 56% disagreed with the statement. Yet, Republicans leaned slightly more in favor, with 46% agreeing with the statement and 32 percent disagreeing. Meanwhile, 14 percent of Democrats surveyed supported it and only 29% of Independents were in favor.

I have enough trouble absorbing the fact that 27% of my fellow citizens think that it is appropriate to rip these families apart, the fact that almost half of Republicans polled thought it was appropriate is astonishing to me.

After all the vast majority of Republicans self-identify as Christians, and yet seem to have no concept of the much vaunted Christian morality.

I myself am not a Christian, nor any kind of a religious person.

But I am a human being, and as a human being my heart is breaking for these children and fellow human beings.

If I were living in one of those border states you can bet I would be protesting outside of these facilities every single day, and be offering my home as a place to house as many of these children as I could manage.

After all, that is what it means to be human.

Right?

And the fucker’s poll numbers don’t go down after such atrocities! His approval numbers have been steady for quite some time. Our country is an immoral cesspool of self interest with no semblance of human decency or humanity.

Sarah said, To keep track of all the immigrants being jailed, ICE should tattoo a number on the arm of each one as they are arrested.

I’ve just come back from a doctor’s appointment where there is always a conversation of books being read. I mentioned reading “Saints and Villains” about Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the conversation veered to Germany and WWII. Both the doctor and I have visited camps in Poland and Germany respectively. I told the doctor about the room in a museum in Caen, France, that has a wraparound map of Europe with little lights showing the locations of the various kinds of camps. They were all over. Our mutual silence about what is happening now here at home was palpable. I think he is as alarmed as i. It’s no coincidence that Stephen Miller with his white nationalistic tendencies was a vocal proponent of what is happening today in the US.

We read today that groups of children have arrived in western Michigan for foster care (or other) placement. There is no plan in place to return the children to their parents. I’m not even sure that the federal government knows whose children are where. So now it’s not just the border states that are tainted. It’s the whole country but it will be harder to focus media attention on the horror of what’s happening if the children are located all over the country.

How did the US so quickly become so evil?

We have a leader with no conscience and plenty of people are stepping up to help him.

A group of children arrived in Detroit yesterday!

As for the polls, I guess it depends on which one you read,a poll on CBS this morning said 17% were for separation, the 65% against. so polls don’t mean much.

Reason Number One to buy a gun.

trump’s latest lie as told to a group of businessmen at the NFIB, from the comments on you tube it must be some right wing group, was that these children are ALL LIARS and are really here to kill Americans, yes that is right.

so according to trump’ s sick mind, they decided to leave the good life in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala and walk for months to the USA with the purpose of killing Americans. Once they reached the border, there are bad lawyers that told them to lie and say that they are going to die at home and need asylum.

I don’t know who these NFIB members are but they really enjoyed this lie, they other big joke was who has the safest border, trump wouldn’t say, but someone in the audience said something, trump said right and they all had a big chuckle out of that one.
    Maybe NK?

this is a catastrophe waiting to happen and i hope trump lands in the Hague on crimes against humanity.

Donald Trump told ICS that any immigrant being held that looks like Salma Hayek is to be sent to the White House for processing.

Trump is right.. this has to stop.

Last year two Mexican kids, age 3 and 5 moved into the neighborhood. Turns out that were MS-13 gang bangers. They have killed 127 people already.

Ann Colter is also right. The ten year old girl with Downs that has been lost by ICE is also a MS=13 member and she only ACTS like she has Downs.

Wake up sheeple before you die.

I do hope your comment is sarcastic, Anon at 2:41pm. Unfortunately, it reads like many of the statements being made this week by right-wing conservatives, who, as usual, are being interviewed by every possible media outlet.

Last night I watched the news and listened to the ProPublica tape of the upset and crying children. I too began crying at the distress in their cries.

After about 10 minutes I went back into Trump-mode and knowing the family of thieves in the White House, my advice to all investigative reporters is this: follow the money. Someone is making money off of these “tent” cities, holding facilities, supplies, food, etc. and you can bet it’s not the government. Look for a trail that leads to some of Trump’s donors or Mitch McConnell’s donors or Rick Perry’s friends. I’d bet money there is funny business over this Trump policy and all at the poor children’s expense.

Maybe the kids are eating Trump steaks and drinking Trump wine.

Trump admin to pay Texas nonprofit more than $450M to house migrant children: report

The Texas nonprofit, Southwest Key Programs, operates a series of facilities housing detained migrant children, including a former WalMart in Texas that has become the focus of national attention amid the outcry over President Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy.

Government data reviewed by Bloomberg shows that Southwest Key is receiving more than any other organization tasked with running detention and care centers for migrant children.

Southwest Key has been paid by the government in past years, but not nearly as much as the 2018 plans reveal. In 2017, the group was paid $286 million, and in 2016, $211 million.

The company’s CEO was paid $1.5 million in 2016, according to tax records reviewed by Bloomberg, a massive increase from the $786,000 he was paid in 2015. Southwest Key has also recently leased a warehouse in Houston to build another youth detention center expected to house more than 200 children…….

Thank you for a copy of The Hill report. Are there any ties with Southwest Key and former Texas governor Rick Perry? Or is Perry too busy saving us energy?

One of the companies making money is Trailboss headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska. It provides buses apparently with cage-like structures inside for transporting people to detention sites.

CBC news just slammed for his LIE that Canadians are sneaking shoes into Canada to avoid tariffs.
There are no tariffs on shoes and the shoe manufacturers in the US are scambling to correct the lie before they lose business.

Is there anything American the moron in the WH hasn’t damaged? Is he working for some russian shoe company too?

    • Anon June 20, 2018 at 7:48 am

In the NY Post article the author specified the shoes were Italian designer shoes which are subject to tariffs. Goods made in the US and Mexico are not subject to tariffs under NAFTA. Trump excludes details to prove his misleading to lying statements.
